The best fluids for the s4 (tranny, diffs, rear ends, oil, all of it fellas)

There is no "best" there is only crap, and decent.

Ill say this though:

With the audi OEM trans fluid, I had breakdown and separation after only one season. Causing my third gear syncro to fail. Put either the audi high performance fluid in, or the motul, or redline synthetic in, and replace yearly if you drive hard.

redline 75W90 in the rear, center and front diff. wal mart tranny fluid for the tiptronic tranny.

the rear diff takes a hair over 2 qt's, the centre is 1 qt and the front you'll be lucky to put in 1/2 qt and you have to siphon it out. i replaced the power steering fluid with CHF202 which is pentosin's latest and greatest and replacement for OEM CHF 11S.

My tranny fluid is Redline MT90 and my 101K tranny shifts like BUTTER. No exaggeration.

Oil.. Castrol Syntec European Formula 0-30 for winter, Total/ELF 5-40 for summer

I run Eneos 0W oil and Royal purple in the trans / diff.. although that will probably switch to Eneos as well at the next change.

eveything requires you to put the car on a hoist or jackstands and monkey around underneath for awhile.

engine oil is probably the easiest, front differential isn't very hard, but siphoning the fluid out is a bit of a pain, centre diff i had to unscrew an O2 sensor to get access to the drain plug, rear differential has the fill plug in a not to easy to access location.

Redline mt90 made a huge difference in how my trans shifted. It was so much smoother after i switched to it. I was running the Audi high performace stuff in it before and the shifts were very clunky.

For oil i use Mobil1 0w-40 "European blend" and a Mann high capacity filter. I havent had to change the oil in any of the differentials yet, but when i do ill probably go with Redline gear oil. I dont think its better than Royal Purple, but it doesnt stink up your garage when you change it like Royal Purlpe does. That shit has an absolutely horrible smell that sticks to everything lol

with royal purple your paying a premium for all their advertising on horsepower TV, etc and purple dye in the oil.

prefer ELF/Total over Mobil 1 and Amsoil for engine oil - have gone 9k, better to go 5k
Motul Gear oil over Redline and Royal Purple - trans every 25k or so, rear diff *maybe* every 75k?
