    COLD! BT cold idle...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anybody else with BT have a touchy car when cold? For the first 30 sec or so after start up (it starts right up if I don't touch the gas), my car wants to stall if I touch the throttle . Is this normal? Its not a biggie really, but I have to blip the throttle a few times to get the revs up, and I sometimes stall trying to pull out of a parking space. Seems to only occur when its pretty cold out.

Yes ive had this same issue as well. But it could be related to my MAF. But once the car is up to operating temp It idles perfectly fine.

-15F here now, the GTRS started well, but the idle is similar to what you stated, touchy for the first few secs. after it is fine, but I think it is a cold air thing and just a COLD!!! Thing. I hope it starts tomorrow AM!!

I just posted elsewhere the same issue I'm having with my car. Even if I have a tiny K04.

No problems with any of those symptoms here. My car runs fine in the cold. I don't move it until a minimum of after the high (1200rpm) idle.

    Re: COLD! BT cold idle...

I don't think it's a unique case with BTs. At those temperatures, fuel does not atomize properly, as a direct result is more resistant to ignition. So, imagine, your block trying to reach optimal temperature, and you start giving it some welly. You are Leaning out the mixture in an already less-than-optimal environment. Of course it's going to want to stall.

Hold your panties, Give it a sec, and Don't be so eager to thrust.

Having a test pipe affects cold starts. ECM adds a little extra fuel to try to heat up the cat quicker. No cat equals rich start.

    Re: COLD! BT cold idle...

mine does it too, didn't want to go this morning in -1deg f., stalled twice before it "caught" the proper idle. Since going GTRS/Revo idle bounces for 30 seconds even when it's hot out, the stalling only happens if it's really cold out.

    Re: COLD! BT cold idle...

+1 for the 'lumpy' start on very cold days (-17 today, yum) - but its no different than when I was stock.
Like Doug says let it run without touching the gas for about 30 seconds until the idle has settled.
Frankly its a good practice to let the engine sit running for awhile on any cold-start even in the warmer months to get all the fluids running round the internals.

phsingl, what color is your car, it looks like a cross between silver and beige, guessing it's just the photos.

Ah, I think you hit it on the head..... I also noticed soot around the tail pipes... a bit over-rich looks like a good diagnosis.

I'm just south of cincy right off the 75/71 split towards Louisville.... Cruise 75 every day going to work.. I don't get on the road much on the weekends though as I'm spending most of my time on 3 different race cars I'm trying to get built up.

Atlas gray - just the photos/lighting that may make it look a little off.
