Hey guys, recently I purchased a B5 1.8T manual at a good price. Right now there are really no problems with the car and everything is sound. The car is pretty flawless inside and out, with no accidents or mechanical problems. It does have over 140K, so far i have driven it 1,500 miles in the few weeks I have owned it and all I have done so far was replace the CTS and oil change along with some fresh NGK plugs. Body is almost immaculate as well as interior, I actually brought the car off of a guy who owned it for only a month (his reason for selling is because he has another modded 1.8T, the car I brought was his father's and he disliked the manual trans.) So I don't know anything about the original owner. Basically the only negative about the car is that I was supplied with no maintenace history, I was able to get the price more in my favor because of this reason.
Now is there a way I can get a CARFAX or go to the dealer and see if they can source some records for me? Judging by the condition, everything seems to be well taken care of on schedule and in advance. And given the miles I can bet that most of the things that crap out have been replaced... Obviously the first timing belt was changed. I couldn't pass up this car for the price, and buying it with no maintenace history was taking a risk, I must admit its kind of stupid, but I do have mechanical knowledge and do most work myself. I am just worried about the next timing belt. Maybe the second service was already done, I don't know. I just want to see if it is possible to get the maintenace info from the dealer before I tear down the enigine to change the belts and thermostat/ water pump. Thanks in advance, sorry for the essay.
