    B5 1.8T w/ 140K and no maintenance history!

Hey guys, recently I purchased a B5 1.8T manual at a good price. Right now there are really no problems with the car and everything is sound. The car is pretty flawless inside and out, with no accidents or mechanical problems. It does have over 140K, so far i have driven it 1,500 miles in the few weeks I have owned it and all I have done so far was replace the CTS and oil change along with some fresh NGK plugs. Body is almost immaculate as well as interior, I actually brought the car off of a guy who owned it for only a month (his reason for selling is because he has another modded 1.8T, the car I brought was his father's and he disliked the manual trans.) So I don't know anything about the original owner. Basically the only negative about the car is that I was supplied with no maintenace history, I was able to get the price more in my favor because of this reason.

Now is there a way I can get a CARFAX or go to the dealer and see if they can source some records for me? Judging by the condition, everything seems to be well taken care of on schedule and in advance. And given the miles I can bet that most of the things that crap out have been replaced... Obviously the first timing belt was changed. I couldn't pass up this car for the price, and buying it with no maintenace history was taking a risk, I must admit its kind of stupid, but I do have mechanical knowledge and do most work myself. I am just worried about the next timing belt. Maybe the second service was already done, I don't know. I just want to see if it is possible to get the maintenace info from the dealer before I tear down the enigine to change the belts and thermostat/ water pump. Thanks in advance, sorry for the essay.

Check the dealer. Not quite sure. In the year and a half i have owned mine i have had to do a broken timing belt (ended up costing over $3,000), cat. converter, o2 sensors, rear diff fluid, trans. fluid, rear wheal bearings, fornt cv axles, tie rods other control arms, breaks and fluid, coolant reservoir, windshield, headlights, and countless other parts. I never did get the previous records from the owner either. All in all make sure you do as much preventitive maintenance as possible with your audi.

It actually slipped a tooth after going through a car wash. That was at 130,000 miles. Im now at 150,000. It actually happened twice so i never go through car washes anymore

If previous maintainence work wasn't done at the dealer, I doubt it'd be recroded on carfax....I don't even think maintainence is recorded in the carfax document. If I were you, I'd get the timing belt + goodies done right away.
