Hey just got a CF Hood painted briliant black with two stripes CF exposed. Not sure what to do. I either wanna paint the hood Quartz gray totally, paint it Quartz Gray with CF Euro Gear writing exposed, or sell the hood and stay stock. Im so confused, hoods in good condition but just confused. What to do, oh what to do.

Re: Just got a CF Hood.

I've never been a fan of the partly painted CF hood, and a fully painted one defeats the aesthetic purpose of a CF hood in the first place. True, they weigh slightly less, but that's only a concern for hardcore, tracks-spec cars.

I think a full CF hood would look awesome on your car w/ the quartz grey. I think with parts of it painted, the color wouldn't really flow very well.

And if you wanna paint it all the way, just get a stock hood.

My vote is to sell for full CF!

Re: Just got a CF Hood.

sell it and buy a CF hood if you want, then vinyl for stripes and stuff such as that. It is a sin to buy a CF hood then paint it. You are not a race car and therefore dont "NEED" a CF hood (weight savings is nice) you are getting it for the CF look I am sure. With the vinyll you can change it also.

Enjoy and good luck with the build.

    pete,
get a full carbon fiber hood and paint the sides and clear the middle a matte clear. so you get the carbon exposed but not over powering as with the glossy clear :)

I don't know why people don't realize that if you race you need to save as much weight in the front as possible. It may not be a lot in one mod but it will help. I think you should paint the whole thing to keep it looking stock and euro, but you could leave the stripes and if you don't like it just paint over them. You could do it all yourself. It isn't hard to paint a hood. I have done a lot of them.

where you see most ppl mount them is the best place imo - on the inside part aligned with the lines of the hood. they're not for style, they serve a good purpose all though they do look better than most hood pins

I would paint it gray but right where it reaches the windshield i would have it blended so that you can still see carbon fiber. I saw a pic of this and it looked good but i cant find it to illustrate it.

Ive seen that too, pretty sharp...Darker colored cars as I stated in another thread seem to be able to pull off a carbon/paint scheme...dealing with silver I found what ive seen I dont like with the mix of the carbon and paint...
    Just my thought

Im in the same boat, got a carbon fiber hood and need to make a final decision.

meh... yes, you'll get some weight savings, but trying to save a few pounds on our heavy fatassed cars is like bringing this:

    to put out this:

i say if you like the look of the hood, keep it, paint it, do whatever. but the weight savings excuse is pretty much worthless unless you do a ton of other weight saving stuff.

free weight savings: take out the spare tire, remove rear seats, gut the trunk, remove floormats, etc

keep the hood the way it is and get a few more black accents on your car and some matte b rimms. that would look real good i think.

Re: Just got a CF Hood.

On this car you want to get rid of as much weight up front as possible. Getting rid of all that other stuff and not lightening the front would just cause even worse understeer. I still say keep it and to reduce weight more you should swap out that battery. There isn't much you can do up front so you might as well do what you can.
