I bought my car from Boston....first thing I got was a filler plate!...lol...but it was already chipped and had sports suspension. So I can't complain about anything else.

I've put about 4k on the car since I bought it. It already had the chip for awhile in it. The clutch seems to be fine still and I even had it checked out at a shop before I did the purchase. It's def something that I will be looking into replacing down the line though. I've replaced all my clutches and fly's in all the cars that I've had.

Re: The first thing you would do to your B7

1st - Suspension: totally changes the feel of the car around corners and on the highway, and look of the car by getting rid of the nasty stock wheelgap.

2nd - Chip: basically a free +/- 50 whp without truly altering any parts

I'd say those two are by far the most noticable from a before vs. after standpoint. Wheels are always nice to accent a suspension, and from there you can do whatever.

As much as I try, I can't consider tint, debaging and a no-plate filler panel "mods," but that doesn't change the fact they really make the car look better.

The first "mod" I did to my B7 was a Stasis shock/spring combo, and absolutely love the result. I wouldn't take back this decision as my first mod at all, and would do it again if I had a 2nd chance.

Haha, that would have been pretty bad if you ran out of gas and it was -1 out. I guess you made it to a gas station though... Since you lived to tell the story.

Oh yeah, I'd do a set of coilovers and then a chip. The car is never going to be super fast unless you slap a new turbo on it, so you might as well enjoy it's handling capabilities.

1st, get a set of coilovers ~$1000(maybe an RS4 sway bar too ~$150)
    2nd, get a chip ~$500(and probably a forge dv aswell ~$200)

haha yea I know but I didn't leave work till 9 last nignt and I wanted to get home... I live within a within a mile of a gas station so it was no big... Back to the topic... there are tons of post about chips, but how long do the stock parts last with a chip?? I know the DVs typically blow and you should just buy a forged one, but like the clutch and turbo?? does it change it from say 100k to 75k or is it like 100k to 5k??? Im thinking going with a chip first, then suspension... the car does have the SLine Sport suspension (i know its not great but it still is an upgrade) and I love the Titanium wheels which are on it..

It's not about how close you live to a gas station, having that little gas in the car when it's that cold means it runs the risk of not starting at all.

I bet that mile between you and the gas station looks a whole lot longer at -1 degrees while on foot!

And once again, A4A4A, let's not mislead people by thinking ~$1,000 will get them a set of coilovers - the parts are usually more than that, and then labor is another few hundred. I know you're estimating, but let's be fair so people don't get let down when they actually go look.

With just a chip, There will be very little extra stress on things like the clutch and turbos, the DV is the only thing you should worry about.

Re: The first thing you would do to your B7

    here's my mod order:

car purchased used in early November.

my car came tinted, so that's off my list.

i made a homemade intake after some forum disputing that went on about a month or two ago. (90 degree aluminum intercooler piping, amsoil intake filter, silicone couplers)

podi gauge pod installed right before xmas w/ AEM digital boost gauge

Stasis SS coilovers were delivered last week, so i need to find the time to install them soon.

next on my list will be:
    - wheels
    - RS4 sway
    - Exhaust
    - Chip
    - RNS-E
    - Aftermarket driver's seat

I don't have a specific timeline for this stuff, and somewhere in between that time i'll be fabricating a heat shield for the intake, and fabricating a sub box.

I think taking a picture at 30mph is a worse idea

And as for the topic of the thread...chip it. You can't beat the dollar to boner ratio here. There is a reason people who had chipped previous cars drive new rides straight off the lot and to a tuner. Here's my opinion on the other things people mentioned:

Exhaust - you should only get louder when you have more balls than stock
Wheels - It's winter, you live in the middle of Ohio, they will sit in the garage until April.
Coilovers - like others mentioned this is not a cheap mod, you are looking at $1000+ just for a good set and then there are install costs.
Tint - lame. fishbowl that shit
Debadge - not really a mod if you ask me but you should do it anyways, it's free 99

And for all the "will my car get hurt from chipping it" questions...I would say spend a couple hours on AZ reading old threads. Chipping would not be popular if you had to upgrade your clutch and replace your turbo after 10k

You are right on, grizzles, but I'm gonna elaborate on the part I quoted from your post.

More often than not, it seems to me people assume coilovers are the only way to go w/ suspensions. I am even guilty of this, and vowed to only ever get CO's because I thought I'd wanna fiddle around with the ride height.

The reality of the situation is different. After realizing I wasn't REALLY going to be adjusting the ride height enough to justify paying a premium for the ability, I decided a good shock/spring combo fit me better.

They still lower the car to an agressive stance, and you can essentially "set" your ride height by finding a combo that makes the car sit how you'd like it. Not to mention, the performance level is on par with coilovers, and in some cases the ride quality out of a properly paired set of shocks and springs can be better than coilovers. The best part is, a shock/spring setup is usually hundreds less than coilovers.

I've been 150% pleased with my Stasis (Koni) shock/spring combo from their Touring package, and as I said, would do the same thing again if I had a 2nd go at the choice.

Re: The first thing you would do to your B7

The first thing I did was make love to my Audi.

The second thing I did was tint the windows so I could make love without being seen.

The third thing I did was vag her so that she couldn't bitch and moan every time I was in or out of her, put my seat belt on, etc...you know what I'm talking about.

I bet that mile between you and the gas station looks a whole lot longer at -1 degrees while on foot!

    Yeah that's what I meant.
