    Fuel Leak!!

Car wouldn't start when I went to leave for lunch. Had a coworker give me a jump. While I was letting it warm up I noticed fuel dripping off of a fitting. Thought OH!! that's great. I thought the fuel smell I had was just from it running rich when warming up. Guess not

The spot it is leaking from is the very center fitting on this picture. It would be just before the injectors. sorry can't mark it up, at work and no photo tools.

Any idea's? Is there an O-ring there? I left the car at home to charge the battery. will look more at it tonight

    Re: Fuel Leak!!

are you referring to the fuel rail or the injector? The injectors do have o-rings..

    Re: Fuel Leak!!

Yeah I had a leak at the exact same place. Your referring to where the fuel hose connects to the fuel rail if im not mistaking. I tried to tighten it but it didnt help and it was already tight. I took the hose off, theres no O-ring (i verified that with Audi Parts), and the surface that presses against the fuel rail was rough on my fuel line so I think thats why it was leaking. I couldnt find a parts store that carried this line, Audi sold only the entire fuel line Tank --> Engine for like 350 bux or something like that. I ended up buying a used one from A&P (I live in MN where they are located), I bought the rubber part, you can see where its a metal line with a fitting, then it turns into rubber. The new one was smoother and took care of the problem, I cut the fitting and put a new one on.

BTW I also bought a new fuel rail incase that was the culprit, although that surface seemed very smooth. I began by replacing the hose and that fixed it.

    Re: Fuel Leak!!

Sounds like we have a winner! Do you remember how much they charged? I'm up in Fargo so not that far away from them, but still would need to ship.

I wasn't sure what you were cutting, but I think I've figured it out. There is a steel line(fuel line) that this hose slides over in the rear of the engine bay. You just cut the old one off and replaced from the steel line to the fuel rail.

    Thanks

    Re: Fuel Leak!!

I thought of something else, I have a tune that requires a 5bar FPR. Could that have caused this?

    Edit:

I just started my car and it is no longer leaking fuel at that joint. Maybe this had to do with getting a jump and turning it over so much caused too much pressure in the system. Not sure, but I will keep my eye on it. Thanks for the help.

    Re: Fuel Leak!!

I think i got the rail and the rail and the line for 70. I cut the clip that holds them together, not the line. At the start, mine would only leak when the engine was cold, so that might have something to do with it, its -20 near St. Paul right now so im sure Fargo is worse, once the engine warmed up it would stop, but it quickly got progressivley worse. The engine will probably shake worse when your actually driving so it might only spill fuel then too. Finally, when i pressed on my old one or moved the line around it would spray fuel, the new one doesnt do this. But if its good you might as well leave it, you could try tightening it too, just make sure to hold the opposite side with a wrench so you dont bend the fitting.
