Thinking about moving

Ok so I have been thinking about moving for a while down south. I love NY but im starting to grow tired of it and how expensive it is to live here. So im asking all you fellow AZers that live in the south where you live and how you like it down there or may suggest someplace to live.

I love the ocean. i mountain bike, fish, snowboard (probably be a problem) just like to relax and would like to live someplace that isnt to rural but has a little bit of life to it

Georgia would be the best bet. Select mountains there but then a short drive to Tennessee or NC to snowboard wouldnt be to bad either. Or give in and move to Florida and replace snowboarding to longboarding. its just as fun!

Fish=Florida I guess

Mountain Bike=lol Florida if you like mountain biking on flat ground

Ocean= In Florida you're close to the ocean but waves suck but the beaches are pretty nice especially compared to Rockaway up by you (that beach is nasty)

Snowboard=uh stay away from the south, obviously.

I'm from Orlando and still live in this hell hole, don't come here... it sucks. Don't go to Florida, it sucks.

^^a4orlandob6 makes a good point about Georgia, you aren't a long drive away to some really nice scenery.

I live in a nice part of Long Island.. i actually live on the water with my rents but starting not to like it. I was considering savannah. I use to vacation alot in south beach and fla keys i love it down there

Definitely avoid Orlando.

Theres a good mt biking place in Ocala.

Beaches on the west coast of fl are nice, smooth, and have pretty much no wave. East coast fl has more waves and the beaches arent as soft.

If your from up north don't move to Georgia. I'm from Chicago and I hate it here. I cant wait to go back up north. Go to Florida.

i was raised in Chicago, moved to Orlando in 2002. I like it. I actually live in Altamonte which is 10 minutes north of WHORELANDO but still close enough

Depending on what you like and what you prefer... There are some great smaller cities and towns along the North Carolina coast, I would also highly recommend Charleston, SC that's a very nice place. I personally wouldn't want to live in Florida.

x2 on Charleston. That's where my wife's family lives. Nice roads, too - Highway 17 into West Ashley is cool.

Check out northern SC/western NC. I lived in Columbia, SC for 2yrs and while I hated Columbia I absolutely loved the upstate area of SC (Greenville/Spartanburg) and western NC (Asheville, etc.). Awesome MTB up there (best on east coast) and about 5hrs from the shore.

I moved south from Pittsburgh and it definitely was a change of pace and a culture shock as well. Some areas are worse than others obviously so it all depends. The Greenville/Spartanburg area of SC is very progressive and both are really clean cities. There are also a number of tech oriented jobs as well.

I ended up moving back up north to Indianapolis since the GF took a job here, but we really miss being able to take day trips to the mountains or the beach. That being said, I really enjoy the northern work ethic and lack of laziness! =P

I don't get it. Why all the hate towards Orlando? I'm sorry but Altamonte Springs is not Orlando. I live in the Dr. Phillip's/Lake Buena Vista area of Orlando and I love it. I was born and raised here. It has a great mixture between upward growth and a great deal of wealth that people don't assume about Orlando. I went to school in Atlanta, GA and the weather there sucks ass. Yeah Georgia has mountains but its depressing and rainy there. Plus, crime and traffic is awful. I like Florida. I live in Tampa now and its has its nice parts close to the beach. Channelside is beautiful.

Hell, if you want the best of both worlds, move to California, but then it defeats the purpose of moving because NY is expensive.

Quit dissing Orlando, this place is perfect.

thanks for all the input guys...im a construction manager..so moving some place down south that is being built up is ideal and yea cali is no better then ny..and Charleston is on one of my top places to move to unless my sister and boyfriend move to tennessee then ill move closer to that area

Altamonte Springs is as much Orlando as Lake Buena Vista is! And as far as Orlando being perfect, I would recommend that anyone thinking of moving here check out the crime statistics, school systems, and traffic before making the move.
