How long are brake pads supposed to last?

I have 13k on my 08 and my brakes are starting to squeal. This seems very premature to me. Is this normal?

That is a very subjective statement. Do you drive your car hard? Are you going to be tracking your car?

By the way, it is normal for our pads to squeal during low speed braking. If you do a search, you will see about 15,000 posts in regards to this.

My brakes started to squeal at 9k. These brakes just do that. It's annoying, but relatively normal.

Some posters have squealing brakes and some don't. I am one that does not have this problem, even at low speeds. I have 35+ k miles on my car.

That said squealing is normal for many reasons, and does not affect braking performance. However, if the wear indicators come into contact with the rotors and they are the source of the squeal then you need to change pads ASAP.

If I were you I would inspect the pads just to be sure.

My car has 59k and i recently brought it in to the dealer for the crankcase breather recall and they replaced all 4 brakes under warranty, you should go complain, they will probably do them for free since your car has low miles.

anyway you can send over your receipt showing that it was done under warranty??

maybe that would help convince my dealer to fix this under warranty

wait a second.. how did you get that done.. i dont even think brakes are covered under warranty unless they are defective and i cant imagine how you convinced the dealer they were deffective after you had 59k miles on your car...

    more info please

I suspect BlueBacon's pads were not replaced under warranty, but were replaced under a Maintenance Plan, although the mileage is a bit high for the 50k cutoff for that Plan.

Audi offered the MP to certain model years including BlueBacon's and mine (2005, 2005.5, 2006, ....) but stopped maybe around 2007 -- I am not sure.

Brake pads are not warranty items unless they have a manufacturer's defect. Brakes worn out by 16k are unlikely to be covered by warranty if these same pads on other cars last longer on average. Replacement under the Maintenance Plan is also limited (number of times) I suspect.

In my case, I brought my car to the dealer in December for the 35k maintenance and he told me beforehand he'd look at pads to see if they need to be replaced under my MP. Turns out they had meat on them and they were not replaced. I have until 4 years / 50k to wear them out, and they will be replaced.

I'll do what i can to get the receipt, but i didn't get one due to other issues...long story.

The brakes were not replaced under a maintenance plan, they were replaced under warranty...i do not know why as of now but when i get the receipt i will find out, or i'll look it up on elsaweb in a while.

When i brought the car in i just asked about the check engine light, later they told me that they had replaced all the brakes under warranty i was like SWEET!

How the hell did you destroy the front rotors and nearly destroy the rears in 16k miles? You must track your car a LOT. I have 16k miles on my car and at the 15k service the dealer said it looks like I hardly use mine but I don't track my car either. If I did I wouldn't use them that much anyway because with 230hp you need to keep the momentum up through the turns as much as possible.

It's very normal for the Audi brakes to squeal. One way to eliminate it is regular pressure washing of your calipers, pads, and rotors.
