Oil around Sparkplugs...Please Help (pictures) UPDATED:1/23/09

im having problems with my 98 AUDI A4 AEB TIPTRONIC with about 140000Miles. I have a blinking CEL and i replaced all four coilpacks (meyle) and sparkplugs just yesterday and i thought it would remove the CEL ,but i still have the blinking CEL. By the way when i removed the old sparkplugs there was oil on sparkplug #1,3,4. here are some photos below. This Saturday I will replace my cat converter ( i already replaced both of the o2 sensors)and fuel filter (havent change it since i got the car which was about 1.5 years ago)...hopefully that will help.

here are the codes i got from autozone.
    P1300
    P0422
    PO203

    Any suggestions? thanks

Is that clean plug from cylinder 3? Check that injector connector. Clear the codes and report back. Did you change your ignition control module?

Well, if you've got oil on the ceramic parts of the spark plugs, then you'll need new valve cover gaskets.
If the oil is below the "nut", then you've got some internal leaks causing oil to get into the combustion chamber.

I already changed my valve gasket about 3000 miles ago, so im guessin its internal...which is not good! by the way whats an average price to replace the head gasket or whatever?

Re: Oil around Sparkplugs...Please Help (pictures)

its not the valve cover gasket. there would be oil on the ceramics of the plugs. That plug looks brand new. If the cylinder was firing that electrode would have turned greyish. Check the coil packs again and the ICM as well as the injector connector and the injector itself.

Re: Oil around Sparkplugs...Please Help (pictures)

yea its not the VC gasket. if the white ceramic part of the plugs were black, it would be this gasket. its obviously not that. are you sure that its oil and not just unburned fuel?

Re: Oil around Sparkplugs...Please Help (pictures)

P0203 - bad injector, connector, or circuit
P0422 - Main catalyst effinciency below threshold (bank 1)....probably from running rich
P1300 - random misfires....probably due to the injector not spraying fuel. Swap in new plugs and move that cylinder 2 injector and see if that clean plug follows it. If it doesn't then check the injector wiring.

Your ICM is bad again. Swap it with a good one and recheck.

    so whats the situation`??
it really seems that bad is something with the fuel mixture.
meaning pull out the injector on that cilinder and check it.
also the ICM... but if it's said to be new already, hmm. sounds more like the injector.

Re: Oil around Sparkplugs...Please Help (pictures)

why would 1 injector make 3 plugs foul? is the misfire/flashing cel fixed yet? if not, you should check your faults before you start pulling parts.

as far as testing/inspecting the injectors, you can get some glass or sturdy plastic cups, pull the whole rail with injectors attached, put a cup on each injector, and crank the engine, to compare the amount of fuel flow from each injector. a noid light can be used to check duty cycles, but you really need to hook it up to a vag-com before getting into the heavy technical aspect.

    update:
i switched around injector #3 with #4 to see if inj.#4 would spit out fuel...after running the car for about 15 minutes...inj. #4 did not do anything...so im guessing its not the injectors, its a circuit/wire harness and maybe the icm...what do you guys think?

Have you cleaned the PCV system, or replaced the valve anytime in the last 10-11Y? The B6 is notorious for this (so I wonder about the B5), and dumps oil under the cover all over the coil packs, plugs, and harnesses, causing misfires. Fix the PCV system while you're at it.
