WHAT GIVES. The shop where I got it installed at, is blaming it on the pump..

The pump is off of a 2007 s4, with 10k.

It was working PERFECTLY for a few days, and now, they are saying the pump has an internal crack, and is getting air in the system.

I think that they don't want to take responsibility for it, because they made a faulty install. If they missed the O-rings on the input shaft or something, it would get air in the system, right?

I don't know what to do.. I feel I am the most unlucky sob EVER sometimes. lol.. if it can go wrong.. it will go wrong right?

ive gone through 2 power steering pumps now (luckily replace under warranty) the dealer said the 2nd one went cause there was a Small leak in a hose that goes to the pump which allowed air to get into the system and blowing the 2nd pump

make the shop take care of it.. they probably didnt diagnose the right problem to begin with

Another cause of this is often that the PS system needs to be bled... fairly easy look it up.

Where did the pump come from. If you brought it into the mechanic, then they are not responsible for fixing it. If they supplied the used pump, it their responsibility to fix it.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Well they rebled the system.. And all is good

so far.. But it was good when I picked the car up and got air in the system somehow, so I'm hoping it will last this time

I supplied the pump, because they wouldn't
source a used one for me. I made sure it was off an 07, and when I called the place I bought it from, they were like how could it be?? It's from an 07 with 10k. This leadsbme to believe it was a faulty install and they won't take the blame for It because I supplied the pump. The place said they would tAke the pump bAck but I'm going to have to pay 200$ labor again

Man you are having some bad luck these past couple of weeks.

If you supplied the pump then they wont take responsibility for it. Even worse, if it was an installation mistake and you cant prove it they will not pay for it. They will continue to say it was the pump that you supplied.

Hopefully the rebleed fixed the problem. Good luck.

This is why you try and choose a shop that you have some kindve rapport with cause when shit like this happens theyll try and look out for you. Shops like the one youre dealing with are the ones that end up breaking your bank account.

Question though my power steering pump is whining as well but only on very cold days, you guys think i should look into getting it replaced or just leave it alone until it gets warmer?

^^ Neo and JDM.. check your fluid level. If your fluid is low in warm weather it wont make a peep, but if its low and its cold.. it will whine. Might just be a sign of low fluid in the reservoir.

Here is what i was looking for. Something i found in regard to this when it started getting cold in Toronto and i also had the whine.

Here is an Audi bulletin concerning power steering pumps

    http://dejong947.com/audi/tsb/audi.tb.48-05-01.pdf

    Condition
    Noises from the steering system.
May be caused by air which can be drawn
into the power steering pump if the power
steering fluid is clearly below the minimum
    mark during cold conditions.

Yes i was and am still a bit concerned as well. I checked the fluid level and its fine, and when i ran my original diagnosis i noticed the car ran a little rough when the problem was at its peak so i didnt drive either. In fact the whole problem started when i hadnt started the car in a couple days and then decided to take her out. Im going to try bleeding the system it seems that is the right thing to do in this situation.
