    Damn thing wont start ...

So I left my car with my body shop while I was out of town last week and when I returned today it was doa.

Apparently after I left it started when they moved it in and out of the shop but a couple of times it stuttered and ran rough. Shop manager said there was a flashing CEL and it sounded like it was on 3 of 4 cylinders. Then after a couple of the rough starts it stopped starting all together. It turns over, theres fuel in the tank and in the rail but it wont start.

I thought "coil pack" for sure ! But when I got the 2 new "R" coils delivered and returned with a vagcom it got wierd ... the vag connects to the ECU but reports no codes So I swap coil packs randomly and pull #2 and 3, no start. Then I do some more random swapping with no luck and eventually call a flatbed to take 'er to Audi ... I am out of ideas

Nice way to return from vacation !

did you check the pl;ugs and the battery, may have been flooded and fouled up the plugs, or the batt is too low and too many short starts ended up killing an almost dead battery. Just a few ideas.

Re: Damn thing wont start ...

We did charge the battery so thats not it. The plugs are at the top of the list for tomorow.

The really odd thing is that there has been a persistent code present all the time in the ECU and that code wasnt present today. Other than with an ODB tool what could erase all the codes in the ECU ? If the car ran that bad last week then there must be a fault code thrown somewhere to give a hint ? no ?

unplug the MAF (mass air flow sensor) and see if it starts. also just because you have fuel in the rail does not mean that it is at the correct pressure... could be a dying fuel pump as well.
