how to turn traction control COMPLETELY off?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is there a way to turn traction control completely off? When ever I get in it and my wheels are spinning I still feel the car cutting back and lowering the rpms. Is there a way to totally disable traction control? Like maybe disconwect the tire slippage monitor or vag it?
    Thanks

Re: how to turn traction control COMPLETELY off?

I know you push the button but I still feel like there is something holding it back. I have fed btw. Like for an example when my tires are spinning they all the the Rome will be pretty high then all the sudden to 1.5-2K Rome down and stop spinning. And if the tires are spinning, then let off, then get back on it, it slowly builds rpm, and this is with a cvt that's suppost to shoot the rpms as soon as you get on it. I'm pretty sure something is holding it back.

push the ESP button, maybe thats the quattro kicking in, you need some serious power keep spinning all four tires....

just a stage 1 with no other power mods isnt going to be able to spin all four, it might can bark them or something.. even with my setup (not like its a whole lot more power) but in the dry, i can barely spin all four for a second or two till it grips and launches me forward. in a u turn i can get it sideways though but thats partly due to the stasis 4:1 diff

oh and its a CVT? are you just wanting a large repair bill? i wouldnt be trying to launch or spin tires with a CVT if i were you... hell us six speed guys have torn up some trannies launching them

Yea the ESP totally turns off all traction control and lets you begin playtime.

Maybe you are miss firing due to the new power. Not having appropriate plugs for your setup will cause misfires.

Re: how to turn traction control COMPLETELY off?

You guys don't know what you are talking about!

    The ESP system consists of two systems;

One, traction control. It uses several onboard systems to monitor wheel spin via ABS, the actual speed the car is doing again via ABS, steering wheel angle via its own sensor and yaw rate via a roll sensor and finally EDL via again the ABS sensors.

DESELECTING the ESP switch, meaning the amber warning light is "ON" in the dash only turns "OFF" or deselects the steering wheel angle sensor, yaw rate sensor and engine cut off from the traction control. EDL is still active and will be up to 50 mph on Quattro cars and up to 20 or 25 mph on FWD cars.

This means that the car will be held back somewhat because EDL is applying ABS brakes to the wheel or wheels spinning to transfer torque to the opposite wheel who as better traction.

The only way to disable traction control completely is to pull the ABS/ESP fuses but then that opens up a whole new can of worms.

Two, the actual ESP or stability program is technically always active (even with the ESP light “ON”) and really only does its thing while under braking. I’m not going to bother explaining the system in more detail. I’m sure enough is written on this subject and you can search for it.

The car cannot and will not brake better without ESP. As a matter of fact the car's braking system will operate at a much lesser level with rear wheel brake lock up happening. Your braking distances will be longer and control diminished.

Why you say? Because if ESP is the brain of the system ABS is its hart and without either one working the other system as failed too. Loose ESP or loose ABS and you don’t have traction control, ABS braking or the stability program working for you.

Also ABS regulates EDB (electronic differential braking) which allows the appropriate amount of fore and aft braking. With no ABS/EDB the car’s programmed logic defaults to a rear setting meaning more brake biased to the rear is scheduled and that’s why you have rear wheel lock up.

Believe me! I tested a lot of things on the braking system to know and that’s why I took all that crap out and went with what I have today which BTW is so much better, actually unbelievably better.
