is your paypal account setup through your credit or debit card? if it's setup through credit car, don't even waste time with f'ing paypal, just call up your credit card company and ask for a credit adjustment back to your account and tell them you got scammed.

it happened to me before, he BS'ed about sending a set of spacers to me but he never did.

I just don't know why this guy is still allowed to sell. if it only happened once then I can understand but it happened a few times.

Dispute the charge. If you set up your account through a debit card or bank account, then you're SOL unless the seller is willing to provide a refund.

Only credit cards should be used for online purchases because of the consumer protection they offer.

It seems the seller is going to refund you the money when you ship your caps to his other buyer.
When a full refund is issued, Paypal will also refund their fees. So the 18 dollars that he says it wont give you - that's BS
He needs to issue a refund and not send you money in a separate transaction - that would mean twice the fees for Paypal.

I think Audi changed the S4 caps from aluminum to plastic a few years ago. Cutting costs or something. I'll check with the parts department on what is the exact part for the S4 mirror caps.

You are aware that only 2004 (and a few '05s) B6 S4's had aluminum mirror caps, right? Most 05's B6 and all B7 S4's have plastic mirror caps that are painted to a burshed alumnium finish. So technically, he sent you the genuine Audi product. There are threads about this; feel free to research and educate yourself about this.

Most of that information should come directly from the seller's post so that you can hold them to it. Always indicate what you expect to receive from the seller, in detail. Paypal is usually pretty good about these issues I'd assume you'll be refunded, perhaps minus the paypal fees.

B6 and prior had the polished hard metal case. Unless you had an rs4, than it was brushed.

b7 models no longer made them in polish, rather alu coated brush type. By the models I mean s4, not A4 as they never came standard or an option of those mirror types.

I didnt read it all, but if he sold you b7 mirrors, than they will be plastic, but the plastic will differ from your oem ones. Post up a pic and ill see if it is real or not. When I sold my last set of polished caps, those go for a lot more than the new ones.

My paypal transaction and the date of the AD in question was 24 DEC 2008
further more, if his description is correct and they are "brand new set" which he is selling for $300-$400, why did he sell mine for $285??????????

Well because the Audi dealership is wrong. I was going to order caps from him long before Dec 24th. And they never said Aluminum or attempted to be the Aluminum ones. He quoted me a price of 295 back then and usually his prices change depending on exchange rate and what not.

A little research would have made you realize he was selling OEM Plastic S4 mirrors seeing as how you cant get metal ones anymore. I didn't like the idea of plastic so i bought used metal ones (but they werent cheap). He didn't misrepresent anything, this is a case of making an uninformed decision. Be glad he's willing to refund you the way he is.

And the fact that he does state it in his current ad proves his point even more. Since the post you saw was awhile ago, maybe you thought it said what you wanted it to. Looking back at all his posts no where does he state they are Aluminum. That's like going into a store and telling them you want the TV that was on sale for the a certain price a few weeks ago. Good luck with that.

I'll help clear things up...

1) They are genuine S4 mirror caps, Audi quit using die cast aluminum because the metal is to soft and prone to rock chips, basically after 10k miles they looked horrible.
2) You did not post the whole part number, after 2005 the A4 and S4 have the same part number with the difference being the last three numbers/letters which are not on the products, the primered A4 caps are GRU
3)The price you paid is very fair for OEM caps, you may want to apologize to the seller and arange a potential refund, he sells quite a few and may be willing. Hard to say though since you came at him the way you did.

DUDE! Do you see any AD by him on 24 DEC 2008 or prior? NO! That’s when he had the AD, but he removed it after I made payment so that he can advertise more items. Not true i have a b7 2006 S4 and im selling the stock OEM mirrors right now in the classifieds and they are not plastic. They are the hard steel aluminum whatever you want to call them. Each mirror weighs like 3 pounds just a guess ive seen the cheap plastic ones or the ones that come on the 08 s4 those suck. Some b7's maybe just 06 came with the heavy aluminum ones like the b6's did. As far as your situation sorry to hear what happened that sucks.
