tail light turning on by itself?

After i've bought my a4, every other night, my tail lights tend to turn on by itself...to shut it off, i just pump the brakes and it turns off. then, a couple of nights later same thing happens and i do the same to shut it off...is this problem fixable by me or do i have to get it pro-fixed?

check the connections and the fuses.

Your brake light switch is faulty or needs adjusting. Or something isn't right with your brakes, causing the pedal to sink and trigger the lights.

I think he's referring to pumping the brake pedal to get the lights to go off. Presumably the car is parked at the time.

OR if you have a 3.0 with "coming home feature" the lights remain on to guide you along your way.. What ur doing is by opening the door and unlocking the car again is turning that feature off.. No pumping brake action required. Look in your car by the headlight switch... do you have this small round knob:



If you dont have this feature, then it is what they say.. your brake switch is dead and needs replacement.. No big-e its a 30min job..

Thats your problem.. if you turn it off the tail lights wont be on anymore when you open your door to get out and walk away.. BTW they turn off automatically so dont worry...


ALSO you should notice that your Fogs are on too!
