    low boost problem?

I just installed a vdo boost gauge last week and its showing that im only boosting aroung 5-6 psi. another thing is that my turbo seems a little louder than my friends who has a 1.8t gti. could this mean theres a leak or do i just need to replace a sensor or somthing?

    Re: low boost problem?

If you have a pre-facelift (AEB), I think your peak will be 7 psi. So, 5-6 is rather normal and at the same time diassapointing. My car goes to 11psi peak stock. This is a reason many call the chip/flashed ECU best bang for the buck as it can easily raise your boost to 17+psi. I would still perform a boost leak test anyways (good to know if you have any leaks) and try and get the full potential out of the stock turbo as you can. And also may want to consider upgrading your ECU (AZ classifieds has used ECUs that are already chipped all the time).

Another option for chipping is SpeedTuning, I've heard only good things from them, and they only cost $200.
