Unhappy *confirmed* 2 coilpacks at the same time.

    Accelerating in 2nd... *pop!* then:

    - very rough idle
    - CEL blinking
    - loss of power
    - bad smell from the engine.
    - sounds like a have a bigger displacement engine now, haha.

Now here's the problem. I called RPI equipped and they said "ONLY use factory replacement." I've known the guys at RPI for a while now (5 years) and they have never been wrong with providing me advice.

.... but everyone on this forum seems to agree the Hitachi Es are the better choice.

Unfortunately I have to drive the car home later, about 10 miles Hope that's not too bad for the cat...

The dealer said they are using new OEM ones in the 1.8Ts: "We are now using the R's"

So, should I use the hitachis or buy OEM again? (I'm planning on buying 4).

    Thanks

i run the red capped VW packs. Dont' think i would drive 10 miles with a bad pack. it's going to dump all of that unburnt fuel into your cat and light it up there, if your not replacing the cat next week, you will be soon.

Just came back from the dealership. Woot, Bob at Openroad is the man! I blew #2 and #3 at the same time (no wonder it sounded so terrible!). Replaced both with the R's under CPO for a 50Cad dollar deductible!

He said he's not allowed to replace the other 2 until they blow, so i'll be seeing him again soon i'm sure...

Same thing happened to me. At the time thought it was a boost leak, but when got computer checked: misfire cylinder 2 & 4. Went to VW dealer and my neighbor works in parts. Got 4 CPs for $21 US each and the copper NGKs. Car runs great now.

Does a blown coilpack look any different than one that is fine?
