    Chipped Tip Owners - Opinions

How does your car drive in D since you chipped it? For those of you at Stage 1+ is the car still drivable in D or does it constantly hunt for a gear?

I want some feedback before I pull the trigger on this mod. My car is a commuter car and I drive 45 miles a day each way in it. I don't want a car that is twitchy and all over the place. If it drives nice then I'll go for it. If I have to keep it in S or Tip mode all the time then forget it...

im pretty sure a tip chip only speeds up the changes when it is in tip mode. so drive and sport mode are unchanged but im not 100% sure so...

Re: Chipped Tip Owners - Opinions

there is no tip chip for the B6, he is referring to how the transmission will behave after he chips his ECU to APR 1+.

    * I answered this in your other post.

My car was Stage 1 for a few months now Stage 1+ and the car doesn't gear hunt anymore than with stock. I say do it, you won't regret it, unless you have the funds to go BT within a few months.... then do that.

It will hunt with stage 1+.. It has been well documented. I have apr 1+ and I just rock the sport or tip. I get really weird boost spikes in drive. Still way better than stock and in sport its more responsive.

Re: Chipped Tip Owners - Opinions

you will be fine. no need to worry. the only thing you want to be prepared is blown coil packs due to the increased heat that each ignition cycle. always carry 4 with you. some cars tend to blow CPs easily than some other cars.

I suggest you slide the shifter to the right and up/down shift yourself for the pleasure, you feel at least more engaged with the car. D is just weak, it constantly upshifts itself. you can drive like 30mph and you will be in 5th gear sometime if you are in D. S is not necessary because it holds each gear longer thus you burn more fuel and also it puts more load on the transmission.

Mine is 1+ right now and the only trouble I have is when the cruise is on and I start to go up a hill. The car will downshift, accelerate very hard and then upshift immediately because the set speed has been reached again. It'll do this over and over and it drives me crazy sometimes

the shifting sux with a tip and with a chip. it will attempt to go up a 50% incline in 4th gear.

I have found that when in D it behaves similiar to stock except for a noticeable pull at the powerband. I find myself now always using S and it's a completely different car! 1+ is a great upgrade.

I had APR 1+ for awhile, but went back to stock because the trans did not shift properly in D or S. It was fine in tip mode. I don't recommend chipping a tip without a tip chip to go with the ECU upgrade. There is no tip chip offered by any tuners now.

Re: Chipped Tip Owners - Opinions

Thanks for all the input. I'm thinking Stage 1+ after all. I tend to keep it in Tip on the highway when I have the cruise on cos' I hate how it downshifts on hills to begin with. Sounds like the way I drive with a mix of D and Tip will be fine.
