Re: AEROLATCH HOOD PINS install (pictures needed)

it's aerocatch hood pins, not aerolatch.

get the hoods pins from Autobahn exotics.

you mount the hoods pins on the radiator support, do some calculations first. I didn't do it myself but I saw how my body shop guy did it. some cutting and modification is required because it will not be perfect the first few times.

    ok, i will.

I suggest that you paint your hood after you put on the hood pins because you will get tired of the CF look. CF's color fades as time goes by,

lol on the aerocatch page/website, they show this is not the proper way to mount them...Have u had a problems...Ill try and find the diagraphm i viewed.

DOES however make sense you mounted them there in that direction for easy access to mount the bolts..

Im going to have part of it painted and part stay carbon..Going with the lines of the hood if you catch my drift...Yea I know Carbon fades over time but I plan to put a clear coat on it or some kind of protective.

And as for the paint schedule..Im going to install the aerocatch's then paint I beleive...Wouldnt this be the proper way, cause if I painted first, then the paint would chip once drilled for the holes...IDK just my thought

ummm, ill take some pics of mine tomorrow for ya.

I have my hood off (which I am selling) so i can show you where the pins are located. Essentially you can run them wide or close, shouldnt matter. To answer for matt, he has not had any problems the way he has his installed, I am even more confident, he has gone well over the MPH to test it =)

i was going to say, it looks different! and good! there's somebody on the b6 forum who did the reverse (as everybody does... black out the trim and leave the rings chrome) but he sanded the rings and it looked really good. i think i might do that because i can't get over how good the blacked out trim looks with the DG paint but i do think the stock rings are too shiny IMO.

what grit sandpaper did you use/ how did you do it?

i originally sanded the rings too and it looked pretty good but a sprayed them black cos i felt like a change.

i used 400 grit then 800 then 1000 then 1200. just make sure you stop before it starts to yellow.

ya the bolts are across through the radiatro support and all i id was cut the pins shorter so that they would not hit top of the headlight housing... i have had no problem what so ever with them in this location and they are very easily accessable... at least on our cars

anyone having trouble closing the latches? my right one doesn't close 95% of the time anymore and i have to use my nail to push the spring a little to take pressure off so it closes easily. kind of annoying.

And does anyone have their OG hood struts still on? if so is the hood bent or warped or anything from the strut being on one side?

    Awesome pics guys.

I've always wondered how you align the pins to the latch.

So how do you know where to put the latch so it will line up with the pins? What's the process?

go to a good body shop. but basically its trial and error. you put the pins in where you think they'll line up and try and used the tip to mark under the hood. They had to keep cutting away from my hood for the hole for the latches and they only just fit lol.

Make sure your hood is nicely aligned before you get them installed too, cos you dont wanna get them installed then try and move your hood a quarter inch to either side cos then they won't align with the pins after that lol

I am going to pick up a set of aerocatch hood pins for a factoryFive cobra I am building. On the site i pasted below they have pictured on the white car a set in chrome. normally Im not a huge chrome guy but I think the chrome aerocatch pins would look great on my dark blue 65 cobra rep. The window trim and such would match. I have been searching but I cant find them in chrome. Anybody ever seen them?
