    Anyone know if a 12v VR6 can fit in MK1 TTQ 225?

Concerned mostly with physically fitting. I have someone that can sort out the management end. Would a 12v VR6 motor fit in a TTQ 225? What would need to be changed to accomodate? Trans, just bell housing, mounts, etc? I ask because I have seen a lot of people do the opposite, put a 1.8T in a VR6 car.. So it should work ok. And I would still want to keep the Haldex Quattro fully functional. Thanks!

Yes, it will physically fit, using TT 3,2 V6 mounts, and a Golf IV 2,8 V6 24V 4Motion transmission.

Personally, unless the engine's minimum 2,8 V6 24V as fitted to Golf IV 4Motion, I don't think it's worth doing - the VR6 12V engine's quite old now, and seeing as the TT is available as a 3,2 V6 24V (at least in Europe) it seems not worth doing.

The 3.2 was not available in the US with a 6 speed and it will require buying a much newer & twice the price car to start with. Yes the 12v is older, but that makes it less expensive to buy used. Since the motor will be fully built, its capabilities will be very good. That is a very strong motor to begin with. But I am also considering a 24v 2.8 VR6. Just the 3.2 I am hesitant due to the cost..

Would I be able to use the 1.8T 6 speed with any of the VR6 motors? I really don't want to have to change motor and trans, sourcing from all different types of cars..

As far as I'm aware, the V6 / VR6 has a different bellhousing.

Bell housing I can handle. What else?

    Mechanically, that's it.

The bellhousing isn't a seperate part, it's the whole transmission.

So what trans would I need to use? And does that apply to all types of VR6? (12v, 24v 2.8, 24v 3.2) And I assume the only 6 speed that would work would be the R32 trans, but correct me if I am wrong. I am looking to keep the Haldex functional, with the HPA controller.

    ^^^ You'll need to use the 6-speed AWD manual from a Golf 2,8 V6 4Motion, or an R32.

Both are Haldex, so it'll work just the same as it does now.

The VR6 AWD manual is a rare beast, and only 5-speed.
It was never sold here in the UK, it was sold in Germany as the Golf III VR6 Syncro, and it wasn't Haldex-based.

The 5 speed awd tranny is the same as the 6 speed - they offered it in the US with the 180hp TTq's - it simply has a spacer instead of a gear cog.

Really? All other gears are the same? If so, it may open up an option of getting a TT 180 Quattro and saving a few bucks. I was mainly getting the 225 for the fat 5 wheels and the 6 speed. Since the motor was likely coming out anyways..
