    HID kit and the cold?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an Ebay hid kit and today the right side didnt fire up. Thoughts ideas? I replaced this side about a month ago both bulb and ballast because it stopped working.

Could this be caused by the cold? or maybe just cheap ebay crap?

I have just contacted the seller for warranty repair again but this will be the 3rd time in 6 months

I would say that you simply have a cheap product. Not to bust your chops, but that would seem the case if you already had to replace your bulbs and ballast before for the same issue. I would dish out the dough, and go with the DDM Tuning ones. May I inquire, what company you go with?

Xentec somes to mind but I am not 100% sure atleast it came with a 2 year warranty... which isn't worth the hassle.

Do you happen to have a link for the one you are talking about?

    No problem: http://www.ddmtuning.com/hidkihidbuhi.html

If you want reviews on them from AZ members, simply place "DDM Tuning" in the search function.

I have a VVME kit in my car and they fire up every time. Had them for a year and it's -24 out right now with -42 windchill so I doubt it's the cold. Damn, why do I live here!!

Re: HID kit and the cold?

I've had my VVME HID's for well over 2 years now. I've only had one problem with the passenger side, it would flicker/not fire. Pull the OEM wiring harness out of the back of the headlight housing and blow it out/clean it with a toothbrush. Make sure it's pushed in all the way when you reattach it. Also, make sure all the other connections are clean/secure. Hope this helps; it's more than likely just a problem with the connections and not the hardware.

Re: HID kit and the cold?

if my car sits out in the cold/snow for extended periods of time (15+ hours)....my passenger side HID (vvme) kit doesnt like to fire up. Sometimes I will just turn my headlights off and on 3-4 times and it will come on...twice in the past 2 months it just wouldnt come on at all.

a few nights ago my car had been sitting from the previous night and it snowed during the day. at night i went to go out, passenger side wouldnt fire up...i drove to a friends house which was only like 10 miles away with 1 headlight....at about 2am (5 hours later) i went to leave....both HIDs fired up perfectly.

It pisses me off but i don't get it

I had the exact trouble with VVME on the pass. side, turned out to be the headlight wiring harness, one of the wires pulled loose from the grommet coming thru the headlight housing. It's just a pain trying to find the funky wire, don't give up just yet.

Re: HID kit and the cold?

Opened it up and took a look around its like 1 or 2 degrees outside when the wind is blowing... yeah looks like the ballast is pry crap but ill look into it more when it warms up or when I get my new parts.

Re: HID kit and the cold?

Temperature shouldn't have any major affect on it, if at all. My car was in weather like that just recently actually and I never had any problems. You're sure everything is clean and secure? There's no way of telling if the ballast/igniter is bad just by looking at them...
Pull the bulb itself out and check for any discoloration. If it has significant white/grey/silver discoloring on the glass tube, the bulb is bad.

Re: HID kit and the cold?

i tend to have a hard time firing up my vvme kit to when its cold its probable just a weak ground or a connection problem. I wouldn't go buying new ballasts right away
