I just bought my first audi S4. it was everything i imagined it to be. it has 107,xxx on it and its black on silver. got a pretty good deal for it. im a complete noob at german engineering and audi. my other car is a 93 civic hatch. had to get a sedan for the baby. im looking forward to learning more about my S4.

Nice move from the Civic to the S4, that being said its also a somewhat possible upsetting move.

DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE MY PASSAT AND MY S4 but dont get a bad taste in your mouth when several maintenance items come at you all at once.

check to see if it is chipped. I rode around in mine for 4 months before I found out it had the APR chip, messed around with the cruise control stock and them BAM! 80 more hp!

And getting an S4 because you have a baby! Most people I have asked when selling an A4 or S4 are getting rid of their car BECAUSE of a baby. Prepare to have a turbo baby.

stay up on this forum. u can learn a lot from it. just opening the hood on my s4 was intimidating when i first bought it, now i wont hesitate to pull my motor out lol. just remember to search first. 90% of the questions you can think of will have been already asked..

First investment should be in a boost gauge if you do not have it already.
You can tell a lot by the condition of your engine by watching how much boost you put out.

Second check for boost leaks. As these cars get older they will be more prone to leaks. You can make a leak tester like this:

Or you could buy one from AWE. Its easy to buy the parts from Menards and will cost you maybe 10 bucks. You connect it to Y pipe, take oil cap off, and unhook pcv valve and plug that opening, then add pressure up to 15 psi and listen for air leaks. (You will hear girgling down below but that is normal)
Common area's for leaks is TBB, F hose if its the 00 model, rubber hoses on end of Y pipe is where I had a little leak because stock clamps are junk.

Anyway if you search you will read more about how and where to check for leaks.

Third I strongly suggest buying a odbII cable and get vagcom so you can check for codes for your car. This will save you tons of money instead of having to take it in to get things fixed. Plus you can do search on this forum and others to see what any codes mean and you can most the time replace the parts yourself.

One more thing, this is the most important.

I dont know how old you are but if you frequent this site it can be addicting to (want to) go mod crazy on your car.

Work hard to keep it in your means. It does suck seeing how others spend ungodly amounts of money on their car. But in reality most the time it isnt really needed. But to each their own. Nothing wrong with it except if you try doing it and you cant really afford it.

Our cars can get expensive, but a lot of times it can be due to improper driving habits that cause the car to break.

They are a higher maintenance car to begin with, but if done right most the time it isnt that bad.

this mod addiction is more addicting that a crackhead has for crack. Modding my s4 is like my crack. My gf always says when are you going to stop. I always answer il stop after this, but then i go and do something else... I wonder if there ever is an end to this sickness lol!!!
