    20's too big?

I'm considering purchasing a set of BBS CK 20's from a fellow audiziner. I usually think 20's are too big for our body style; but from the pics, they look pretty good. The wheels come mounted with Nitto NeoGen 245/30/20's. The load index on those tires are 88 (1235lb, I think). What do you guys think? The wheels are probably really heavy and will slow down the car a little, right?

    Re: 20's too big?

Wheels generally look smaller in pictures than they do in person. However, I've seen the pics of the wheels you're considering and they actually look big even in the pics. It's my opinion that 20s just look too damn big for the A4/S4 body. Christ, there's an S8 in the Boston area w/ the 20" MTM wheels and I think those even look too big for the car. It looks like a Hot Wheels toy car. For our cars, I think 18s or 19s look best.

If you like them, then get the wheels. Just keep in mind that you will probably be sacrificing ride comfort for the bigger size.

    Re: 20's too big?

I have noticed that the B6/B7 cars definitely look good with at least a 19 inch rim. The 18s look like those stock little 13" rims on some older hondas. The 20s look pretty good even though I am not into that look on most cars, luckily due to Audis body design and larger wheel openings on these cars..

    Re: 20's too big?

Even though I am the seller and you might call me biased, I have been to multiple meets/G2G's where everyone including tuning shop guys have said they actually don't look like 20s at all and they match the car perfectly. They even said they were very surprised when I said they were 20s because they thought it looked 18 or 19ish.

I want the OP to get as much input as he can because I'll sell them to someone no matter what so I'd rather a potential buyer be happy with what he's getting anyway that me get a sale and him be pissed, keep em coming!

You drive an Avant, its SURELY the right choice, and for the B8 A4s, righ choice again.. But IMHO for a b6-b7 sedan they would look big..

Is the load rating too low @ 88? I thought the S4's being heavier required 92 or 94?

I wanted to do 20's, but after seeing the 30 series tire in person, I'm settling for 19's. You should take local road conditions into consideration.

I have seen some 20's that look great on the sedans, but some that look way too big. I think 20's are perfect for avants.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned with the load rating too...especially when the S4 is front heavy. The price the seller is asking is pretty good, but I can't afford a new set of 20" tires as well.

The load rating is at least 90, I will check them tomorrow to make sure but I know that's what it is at minimum. Here is a link to the best place to get these at $175 a tire and it says 90 as well.

    Re: 20's too big?

    19" or 18"

just think about it from a design standpoint...the RS4 stock looks PERFECT. It has 19" wheels and MASSIVE flared wheel arches/fenders to accomodate them.

The S4 has much more subtle flaring/sizing and is optimal at 18" or 19" max. 20" would start to look a bit silly.

Your car has that awesome OEM+ look....don't lose it.

p.s. here's one with 20" wheels. It just looks wrong. The other thread of the blue DTM has about 6 pics, but they're all either distorted or from awkward angles. I reckon if you saw it with a normal view of the side of the car, they'd look a little off too.

    Re: 20's too big?

    Personally, I'd go 19" max.

Regardless of how they look on the car - they're a big wheel, B6 / B7's aren't that quick to begin with, even as an S4, why slow her down even more with wheels that size?

A 30 profile's going to give a very harsh ride, not sure what your roads are like but I recon even good roads will transmit a certain level of road noise.

    Not much suspension travel either.

Still, it's your car, if you truly like them, and are prepared to put up with the negatives, then by all means, go for them.

Actually I don't either, just a little frustrated by the comments. I'm going to move these no matter what so that's not the issue, I've been told the car looks great and the wheels work really well which is the opposite of what Im getting here. And the reason I'm changing is because I hope to do some tracking this summer and I don't have room for two sets of wheels at my place. (Plus I get bored with looks, I've already gone through 5 sets in 1.5 years )

    Re: 20's too big?

I was thinking of going 20's on my avant, however after running a set of 18lbs BBS my first consideration for wheels will always be weight. Weight makes a HUGE difference in terms of performance. As an example, when running my 19 inch OEM rs6's which weigh in at 40+lbs.. my car against my bro's stock 335i is no contest. With the 18lbs wheels, no spare, and a light weight hood, i give him an excellent run (1/2 car depending on who gets a better jump)...i'm in an Avant with a slush box, so the weight savings can really be noticed.

It really doesn't matter 20's or 19's as long as you have the right drop and they are LIGHT WEIGHT. Iggy's BBS are insane wheels no doubt at 24lbs, however he needs a drop badly (then and only then will the 20's look proper).

    Re: 20's too big?

I find no ride difference between the 19s I had and the 20s I have now.

The 20s I have weight at least 10lbs lighter than the 19s as well. But comparing a forged wheel to a cast one isn't fair.

If you have nice roads to run 20s on why not? If you don't then stick with 19s.

But as stated above... you just need the right offset and ride height to pull it off.

    Amen brother!

And from a guy who just made the switch from 18's to 20's and has driven on 19's on his last car, there is barely a difference between 19's and 20's "road-feel"-wise. In all honesty, most of the issues with ride discomfort come from suspension.

    Re: 20's too big?

Thanks for the input everybody. I think I'm going to go 19" max. For me, 20's are a bit much. I probably could pull it off, though. I'm at 24.75" in the front and just under 25" in the rear.

You can say that again. I am pretty tired of the 20" bashing myself only because it seems to come from a lot of people that have never seen 20's on a B6/B7 in real life before and never drove or rode in one. As my buddy Winston posted before, the difference in ride between 19's and 20's is almost nonexistent. I have had both 19's and 20's so I know what I am talking about. And as nsmith12 said, everytime I go to a show or GTG, people are drooling over my wheels and in such disbelief that they look so perfect to be 20's. I have defintely had a few people eat their words about how horrible 20's look after they see the car in person.

    Pic to make it worthwhile

^Thanks for the positive words, I actually sold the wheels that the OP is talking about. I guess things work out in the end, here come by custom wheels!
