    Re: Testpipe question

They are all for "Off road use only" seeing that they are against the law to run on a car that is used on the street. Actually any time you pull off a emissions part and get caught there is a nice size fine.

Yes as long as it says it's for a B6. I used to have one off ebay that worked great but with the 034 high-flow log mani the upper 02 was pretty much touching the mani so I switched to the ATP 3". My tuner said the 02 sensor may be off since it could have been for a B5 which are pretty much the same. It was ebay crap though so don't worry.

Yes and no. Florida doesn't have emissions inspections anymore, but the emissions law is federal.

Not exactly. Inspections are annual, but emissions checks are bi-annual. I passed my last inspection with a bad MAF and test pipe without an anti fouler. Actually, I cleared my codes just before I went to get an inspection, so everything would have failed.

However as the inspector backed my car out, I saw a brand new sticker and he told me it's my lucky day, they don't check emissions/ODBII this year, it's next. All he did was a visual inspection - lights, horn, tires etc... he even looked for a cat before he realized he an emissions check wasn't required this year.

Ah interesting. I've only been an "official" mass resident for about a month now. I just knew my sticker said it expires in a year. Thanks for the info!

might be hard to find a "shady" smog emissions place in orange county. you may want to consider getting a high flow cat, especially if you're in cali...i heard the fine is outrageous.

ps. i'm in orange county for the week right now, the weather is incredible!

HFC should be fine. They're just $$$. Compared to a TP. It's the safe route to go though.

I'm in Orange County, too. No emissions inspections in Florida. Although I do get nervous when I see a cop behind me. I always wonder if his AC is on recirculate, or if my noxious fumes are flooding his cruiser. I park in a parking garage for work, and when I get out I can smell my exhaust throughout the whole structure!

    Re: Testpipe question

personally if i were to get a new one, ide get the VMR one with the heatshields. then at least it visually looks like a cat. therefore someone wont look at it and know. just grind the "for offroad use" stamp off.

here in MA as long as you have no codes you will pass. i just passed last week. they do not probe the exhaust and get readings anymore. its all done through the DLC. so basically, if youre chipped with a file that has a CEL eliminator youll be fine.

plus i work at a dealership, so i got ins

1+ is just upgraded injectors. Stage 2 will be TP and intercooler. I'd get the intercooler first, unless you have an extra $100 or so laying around to just grab one from the classifieds. Keep in mind that you'll probably want to set some money aside to have a shop install it for you. It can be done yourself, but if you do a search, you'll see that many would suggest just paying for it. It's pretty troublesome unless you have a torch to cut the bolts off.

    Re: Testpipe question

If you ever look at cheap car accessories at Autozone or Walmart, they all say 'For Offroad Use Only'. That's the manufacturer's denial of liability. Just in case you ruin your car, or get into a wreck or fail emissions tests, the responsibility lands squarely on your shoulders when the manufacturer told you to not use in on streets.

Just a tidbit for the OP.

wrong. youre getting confused. apr 1+ is the same as revo stage 2. there is no APR stage 2. unless you are refering to the KO4 turbo kit, which is simply called "KO4 turbo kit". apr does not require anything besides injectors and dv, while revo does require a dv, injectors, testpipe/hfc and recommend an intercooler but do not require it.

he is talking about the testpipe. i installed both my test pipe and intercooler myself and i can say the test pipe was way more of a bitch. the bolts were all rusted and o2 sensors were frozen. if i wasnt doing it at my friends dads place who races cars and has a ton of tools i woulda been screwed. the intercooler i did in my driveway with just a few tools i had laying around.

if u'r lookin from price standpoint, go tp... perf, go intercooler. however, if you have emissions that you cant get around, the intercooler could be cheaper than a hfc..

and with apr, stage 2 is just the stage 1 tune but with the intake and exhaust... 2+ is just apr1+ w/ the intake and exhaust and injectors... the stage 2 is just stg1 w/ supporting mods..

I would really advise against cutting the mufflers off. We did that to my buddies car and the 1.8's dont sound too hot.

I second that question about performance gains in regards to a TP(I'm running an APR stage 1+ btw). Also, is new software necessary for running with no cat?

    Re: Testpipe question

If you are deciding between a TP or an Intercooler, I'd definitely say IC.

Running a testpipe with proper software means that you have an exhaust to go with it. I learned this first hand. I had Revo Stg1 with a testpipe, but no exhaust.

Dave (Eurocode) and I were sitting in the car staring at the logs thinking, WTH is going on?!?!

CFs through the roof and EGTs, hitting high 900s on a conservative setting for Stg1.
Yeah you guessed it. It was my factory exhaust, specifically the mufflers.

Went back a week later to do logs and tuning again. This time I had a whole new exhaust. The power came on strong, and everything was within "safe" parameters.

Just remember, we're heading into spring then summer. You'll want the extra cool charge temps that will recapture some of that lost power due to heat soaking.

If you run just a TP during the summer with a factory IC and a factory exhaust, you'll have a double bottle neck. Heat soaking at the IC and back pressure at the rear. It won't be good.

    FWIW

    TP implies exhaust

IC can stand on its own.

    Re: Testpipe question

I run a highflow cat in New Hampshire so i don't have to swap it out every year for inspection.

some places are easy going though, i have a leak where the downpipe and the exhaust meet, the guy doing the inspection pointed it out but said he wasn't worried about it enough to fail it.
