    Hey guys,

My tires are gettin low. I think im saposed to look at the inside of the gas cap for the PSI for the tires. But theres like 12#'s in there. So for the 2.8L 30V 98 Quattro Manual on stock wheel and suspention setup, what tire pressure do you guys like to be at?

36 PSI on stock 16's with 225/50's works best for me.

    Re: Tire Pressure

i stick around 35-40. 34 and lower looks so under inflated on my stock 205/55/16.

If i were to go on a twisty drive i put them at 34 rear and 36 in front.

I always have them at around 38-40 in front and 36 ish in the rear.

NEVER set your tires at max psi, that is the stupidest thing iv ever heard.

    Re: Tire Pressure

10% below max psi is the highest you should go, but most people run a little below that as 35ish is optimum for most passenger cars

    Re: Tire Pressure

Max psi is for a fully loaded car at gross vehicle weight. Most go with 36-38 and I do for normal driving and in the winter. For road trips I'll bump them up to 40 for better mileage. They shouldn't be over 40 unless you are at an autocross event.

    Re: Tire Pressure

i use 35-40psi on my stock 16" sports. ive been trying to figure out a simple, universal tire pressure guide for all cars. this is what i have so far:

    wheel diameter= D

    (Dx2)+2= suggested psi.

    15" is 32psi, 16" is 34psi, 17" is 36psi, 18" is 38psi, 20" is 42psi, etc, etc...

i know its not exact, and doesnt account for load and treadwear or anything, but it is average enough to work, and easy to remember for people who arent car buff's (wife, kids, friends, etc...)

    Re: Tire Pressure

If you are running small rims and big tires then low 30's (i.e. follow the gas cap).
If you are running big rims and small tires then you need more pressure (not mentioned on the gas cap).
Depending on the tire, I run between 40 and 45 (a bit high) when the max is 51 but that's with a 235/45 17. If you are using a 15" or 16" rim it should be less.

i just put them all at 40psi. its a little on the high side but it will help with gas mileage. and i dont drive like an ass so i dont really need that extra grip for winter or whatever. thanks alot guys. boy was that gas cap marking makin me mad standing in the cold bent over trying to figure out what its says. lol. yeah im on the stock 16s.

    You've got 2 plus D squared. I think you meant 2+2D.

    Re: Tire Pressure

look at that max pressure on the tire and DO NOT go above that number try to stay at least 2psi under that number...I've seen tires blow from over filling ... buying a new tire isnt worth the maybe couple bucks you'll save on gas millage -_-
