Is there any way of controlling the auto dimming mirrors? They seem to dim when I don't need them to and can barely see through them. I don't have the owners manual for the car.

    Re: Dimming mirrors

i have the auto dimming mirrors too and they seem to be dim when you dont want them to be. theres no way to disable it because its not electrically controlled, its a fluid inside the mirror that dims it.

    Re: Dimming mirrors

they're monochromatic mirrors...what that means is....on your main rear view mirror inside the car there's a small black circle on the face of the glass itself on the rear view...once that little black hole (sensor) reads a direct light (larger vehicle behind you with lights on while sitting at a traffic light) ALL 3 mirrors will turn dark to prevent an eyesore or any glare!

    Re: Dimming mirrors

so...if they're stuck on dim mode check your main rear view mirror....that's what actuates the side view mirror lenses to darken

    Re: Dimming mirrors

Get some scraps of tint film from your local window tint shop and punch out circles with a paper punch. Place them over the sensor on your main mirror, starting with the lightest tint first, and replace with progressively darker pieces until you get the level of dimming you want.

    Re: Dimming mirrors

My original auto dim mirror failed and I replaced with a B6 autodim with compass. This was plug and play and has a button to switch off the autodim. Maybe a bit expensive, depends how bad you want this feature. I found a good deal on Ebay.

    Re: Dimming mirrors

my rear view mirrior looks as the liquid from the top middle is running down its dimmed where the liquid is and theres a patch on the top where its a regular undimmed portion,, is it doing this because of its age? are they expensive to replace?

    Re: Dimming mirrors

That is what happens when they fail. They can sometimes be had for a deal on Ebay, very expensive from the dealer iirc.

    Re: Dimming mirrors

I suppose if you wanted to defeat the auto-dim function and did not want to spend the $$, just unplug the wires for it. Just pop the cover off the neck of the mirror's arm, and disconnect the wire. The only drawback is that you will no longer have any glare protection at night from bright lights behind you, and you will not have a compass (if 2002+) in the mirror with no power.

    Re: Dimming mirrors

my inside mirror doesn't dim but my side ones do. I just put the rear power shade up at night to lessen the glare from vehicles behind me!

Not too bad when you consider you have $800 of stolen money to work with.
