    Just got chipped and...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I don't really feel very much of a difference. I have been told that there should be a 35 hp and 40 tq bump from stock.
Do I need to rev to a minimum RPM to feel more zip? I thought getting chipped should improve throttle response too. I have CVT.

Anyone? I am running GIAC stage 1.

The first day I had my APR Stage 1 I scared myself the first time I punched it - definitely noticeable. Do you have a boost gauge? That will help you know when you're exceeding pre-chip boost levels.

I'm running GIAC software and I definitely noticed it. No the gains aren't huge, but should be noticable none the less.

    Re: Just got chipped and...

i was disappointed with GIAC stage 1. i noticed the power but it was so peaky that it really wasn't that useable. GIAC FX (injector file) was much much better IMO. It not only boosted more but also seemed to hold power longer. For the cost I was definitely not disappointed with the 1+ file.

bottom line. if you chip your car, atleast go 1+. it doesn't cost much more and makes sizeable difference. A 1+ B6 1.8T boosts the same as a Stage 1 1.8T on other applications (GTI, GLI, Passat, ect). So IMO stage 1 on a B6 is sorta like 1/2 a chip.

I also got disappointed. I think its mainly all the hype around it. People say it becomes a new car.. bullcrap! Anyhow, on VWs its more noticeable but on our cars there's a difference but it's not huge. It goes from fkin slow to really slow.

    Re: Just got chipped and...

keep in mind 1/1+ is losing power after 4.5k-5k as fast as the titantic sunk. a CVT runs higher RPMs so it is keeping you OUT of the powerband if anything....

most tuners advertise 225-235chp for 1+, if its a fully supported 1+ with FMIC, exhaust/tp, TIP you might make 250chp but it peaks quick and is done

When I initially got my GiacFx file, I was at about those numbers as well. Id peak at 20 psi from time to time, but averaged about 15. It will def give the car some more pull, but don't be super hyped that you can take on the world. I still regret not going BT instead of the K04! For the price of the chip, it's a very good initial upgrade. You'll be pleased, no worries

I tried driving in Tiptronic mode and I did notice a difference in the higher RPMs, which made me wonder...do you have to basically floor it to feel the car pull? I know CVTs tend to keep the RPMs between 2000 and 3500.

Sweet spot for a k03 is not in the upper RPM range. All your gain is basically at 2800rpm-4500rpm. You are still slow, but with a chip, you can def feel the difference between stock and chip.

U with a fully built 1+ setup with a 0-60 in the mid to low 6s should not complain that's freakin quick for this car.

Let us know how the new DV works out for you. I was/am in the same situation.. didn't notice even a tiny difference with my GIAC on my CVT. Can't get under 8 second 60 m.p.h... it's been months now and I've kind of accepted the chip was just a waste. I'd be so happy if it was just the DV.

    Re: Just got chipped and...

Guys, original poster is CVT. Doesn't matter what chip. The CVT is awful. I've worked on and driven lots of A4's. I'm a former audi performance tech.

Anyway, the problem with the CVT is when you punch it it doesn't rev like 5 speed/tiptronic cars. It has no gears. The revs instantly shoot up to about 4,500rpm and stay there while the car accelerates. The problem is that this is above peak torque of the 1.8T engine. K03s 1.8T's pull hardest between 3000 and 4000 rpm, and CVT's don't make good use of that powerband.

My audi tech says the same...with the CVT car the traction control is always on, maybe its a glitch in the software to make the car accept the CVT whatever it is it sucks!!! No Certified Audi Tech will love the CVT.

Sometimes our ECU's take a couple of driving cycles for it to go into affect. The ECU is trying to figure what to do with the new flash. My APR stage 1+ with stage 2 flash was a huge difference and very obvious right from the flash time. Now when I bypassed my N249 valve it took 3 driving cycles before my car woke up and got back to its fast self. Our ECU's are like a overly sensitive 18yr old girl who just got dumped for an uglier girl...

Isn't traction control always on with all of our cars?

    What's a Stage 2 flash from APR?

Hi all, I am new to Audizine, and enjoying the incredible amount of information available. Thanks! I recently did the APR 1+ and DV, and I have the CVT. Unlike others, I noticed a huge difference mainly when I drop to the "sport" mode, or if I use the tiptronic. I definitely feel the low end and powerband, then it tapers pretty quickly. It also took a few days for the ECU to adapt, and now I know I must be doing sub 7's at least.

I planned on going 1+, but wanted to drive a few months on stage 1 just to re-experience the thrill of "chipping". Noticed a slight difference with GIAC stage 1. Really noticed a difference in the middle gears when I went stage 1+.

For those looking to feel a real difference right away, spend the extra to go right to 1+.

Got my 710N installed today and I still don't really feel that much of a difference. I'm not sure what is going on. I tend to drive with the RPMs between 2500 and 3500 so the turbo should be at its optimum efficiency, right?

Is it just the CVT? Or perhaps a boost leak?

I have to drive outside of my normal driving habits to feel the kick of my chip. It makes sense if you have a boost gauge - you can almost see two modes of driving. If I'm just doing lazy Sunday drives around town, my boost gauge shows normal stock levels of boost - less than 10 psi. I have to want to go beyond that for the "chip power" to kick in. The boost gauge has taught me what RPMs I need to be at, how long the 18 or 18 psi peak will hold etc.

In short - get a boost gauge if you don't have one. I think it will really help you learn the parameters of your power.

I got a chance to drive my cousin's Mitsubishi Evolution VIII in December and it pretty much reaffirmed by thought of having two options - 1. stock 2. BT at a minimum. Unfortunately, I am stuck with option 1 because I now have to pay for my braces for the next two years (~$5000).

The turbo on the Evo VIII kicks in so hard - the power is amazing.

The addition of the chip should be able to be felt. Your cvt may react diffrently than my tiptronic but when I added stage 1+ it was like night and day. Great bang for the buck, no doubt. Check your DV and for heavens sake get a boost gauge.

OK. So I got around to getting a boost gauge. I noticed that with normal acceleration, I get about 12 psi of boost and sometimes it peaks at around 15psi. Are these expected boost levels?
Only mods I have are GIAC stage 1 and 710N DV.
