    Two minor/quick problems

Ok I'll make this quick. 2002 s4. Was involved in an accident about 2 months ago, I've had the car back for a week. Everything runs great, sounds great, seems perfect. However there are 2 issues:

    1) Check engine light is constantly on (it came on the second after the collision, and has remained on even after repairs) and starts to blink when I go above 60mph (roughly). I assume I just have to take it to audi to get this reset?

    2) Stereo just says "SAFE" on it and CD-IN (even tho there is no cd in it). I cannot use any functions on it, it just says SAFE. So yeah, I'm driving without music (lame). I assume when I take it to audi they can fix this, but is there any way I can do it before having to take my car in?

    Thanks everyone

CEL could be a lot of things. It could be a sensor or snesor plug that was damaged in the collision. Only way to know is to check for codes. Autozone can read them for you. The SAFE mode is an anti theft feature in the radio. The code should be in your owners manual. If not then the dealership will have to get it for you. Go to Autozone and have the codes read first. If you need the dealership for any work they may do the radio for free while it's there. good luck

    ^ good advice.

You should really have a vag-com though, such a worthwhile tool to have.

For the radio, as mentioned, the 4 digit code is written in your STEREO owners manual.

The check engine light sounds like you are having misfires. I would pressure test. Also I'm over here in Los Gatos if you need access to a vag com.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

About the misfires, is this actively causing damage/harm to my motor (aka should I stop driving my car?)

    also, will this cable work?

What exactly do you mean by 'codes' -- get it hooked up to a vag-com?

Yeah that cable will work. Just download Vag-Com from Ross-tech and you;ll be able to read the codes.

If the check engine light starts flashing, you really should stop driving the car, especially seeing you dont know what the codes are .

The radio code can be obtained from the dealer for a ridiculous sum of cash.

Any estimate on this 'sum of cash'?

If it is expensive I might as well throw in a new headunit...I've been wanting to do it for a while now.

If you can pull the radio, you can get the AUZ number on top of it and they can generate the code with that and the VIN. This is usually why they charge you labor for the code. *Maybe* if you go in there with the AUZ number and your registration, they'll look it up for free, depends on the dealer..*Maybe*
