not that VAST's isn't a good product... it's an option... but they don't even do their's in house... so why not look into other options?

    Re: 517-trans Torque Converter

Dude, you would be crazy to use anyone else. It has a full 1 year warrenty with no questions ask. You would much rather use a vast tc over a IPT, level ten, or 517. Do some research and you will see what im talking about.

Sam from 517 NJ is one of the very 1st to mod Audi TQ and VBs. He worked at Level 10 for years and due to politics and other BS he left and opened 517. His work is awesome and knows his stuff and can build anything. I have his TQ and VBs in S4s with over 220K miles. If you call him, say Mike from Wicked says hi. G-luck

i luv you peter parker, oh wait, not b96. anyways, I believe we met at the GTG not to long ago for MNOOOO but not sure. I have a 517 trans and TC and it feels great. I have only had it in for a couple months, but it is awesome. No slipping, no gear searching or anything like that, just puts power to the ground! If you want to meet up sometime just shoot me a PM on MNOOOO and we'll see what works best.

Yup, Skydive. Did a great review comparing his TC from Level10 vs. 517. Basically concluded that Level10 didn't replace any of the internals, just beefed up some cosmetics on the TC so I looked modified visually...

As far as I remember, I don't think skydive ever got a chance to run his rebuilt trans from 517. I think he aborted the project before he installed it. Wish he would have gone through with it so we would know how it would hold up with the tial kit.

I believe you are correct. He might of drove it a little bit w/ the TC, but not enough to really warrant if it does it's job or not...

Level 10 is the worst in vernon new jersey my buddy had his eagle talon transmission redone there, and he made it 2 miles before it broke down because they forgot to put transmission fluid in it.

I've had my 517 tc for a few years now and I still love it and would definitely recommend 517trans to anyone and the owner is really cool. I also tracked the car at waterfest 2 years in a row and still no issue's. My stock transmission is definitely my weak point now being that im stage 3 and it will definitely fail way before the 517 tc does.

Scotty, doesn't the increased stall speed interfere with the operation of the 5hp19? I have heard that it is detrimental for it. I would love to hear your professional opinion on this. BTW, nice converter, wish I would have known about it 8 months ago.

I have someone that should be making the purchase soon. Are these made by order or are these in stock? If someone doesn't plan on brake boosting/launching will the other variant work just as well to hold power scott? What else do you think is a good idea to change when putting the TIP to work?

i can't say for sure.... but I believe that the increase stall on my 517 TC has created a low rev issue on my car where from 1500-2000 rpm in any gear it will rev up and down on it's own if I try and hold that cruising speed.

almost like the tcu is switching between maps.

I also have the 517 TC and experience the same issue. I have started just holding a lower gear around town so that I am just above 2k rpms. Typically on the highway, I don't am not cruising at a speed where my rpms are below 2k.

Other than this, I have had zero problems trans related.

Mine doesn't do this. But if you floor it at a low rpm it makes a weird noise

I'm probably the black sheep in this thread but I'm a stg 3- and I've had a level10 torque converter in mine since 2010 and haven't had any issues since. Must have been one of the lucky ones ;)

I don't believe this is related to the 517 TC. My blue car is tip w/ stock *leaking* TC and I've experienced the same issue on occasion. I've been unable to narrow down repro steps and the issue is not persistent.

Nope, the transmission doesn't care what the stall speed is. i've had a 2800 rpm stall in my S6 for 3 years and 50,000 miles and I love it, it really wakes the car up, but don't launch with passengers or cargo as anything that isn't tied down will end up in the cargo area rather quickly.

I stock the 2.7 stock stall converter, the street sauce converters are made to order and take about a week to do up.

Ever since the swap, if I am not super easy on the gas, the rpms flash up a couple hundred rpm then takes off hard. I have to be super easy on the gas.

My 2800RPM stall converter has always done this throughout its entire life.... exact same symptoms. 1800-2K is when the torque converter stays locked. You can see the torque converter cycle through "lock" and "unlock" phases in vag-com.
