JHM rotors installed, along with other stuff.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As it says. I got the JHM lightweight rotors, along with ECS SS lines for front and back, Brembo 600F brake fluid, Hawk HPS Pads. OE rotors for the rears with Hawk HPS.

Rotor construction looked excellent, as expected. I will be testing the brake combo this week. Obviously my brake pedal is a lot stiffer with the SS lines....noticed that immediately.

First day...wasn't able to test them out really....it snowed so bad outside...the day i had them installed. All my car could do was slip across the pavement and conti2s didn't help the situation. The shop tried their best to seat the pads...but I will do it tomorrow morning.

Throughout the week i will test the setup for braking on the highway as well as street. First day with the setup for what its worth felt nice. I'll report back with some testing on tomorrows drive into work.

Great to see you got them on. Please let us know how it turns out. I am very happy with mine.

Also I think after you mentioning it I might up grade my brake lines now. Thanks for the feed back

Re: JHM rotors installed, along with other stuff.

yeah the ss lines alone were a huge improvement over brake pedal feel.

it stops pretty good.....i did a few 50-0 stops and even with it being wet out....it stops pretty good.

on inspection of the rotors themselves....very very happy with the construction. they are lightweight. between the pads and the lines and rotors...i'm very happy with the combo.

as for the revving up quicker because we cut 10lbs off each corner....can't say i notice that. nothing like when i ran an EFK...but that is pure drag on the motor. if i get a run in against my bro and something changes...i'll let you know.

They're nice rotors, but I don't think you're going to see an increase in speed from them. What you might notice is a little less gyroscopic effect on the front suspension over bumps and road irregularities. You've cut the unsprung weight, and that will reduce the rotating mass of the front wheel assemblies. That will allow the shocks to modulate the suspension movement more effectively.

b00st, do you track your car at all? I'm curious as to how these might hold up to the heat and stress of the track.

    nope...i don't auto-x my cars. drag......and even then its been a while.

its an excellent question.....with the giant vanes for venting...i'm sure they will do alright. worst case...you replace the ring. maybe a slotted for better venting and a track pad.

my car is not setup for auto-x. stock suspension, stock tires. with the stock calipers.

i don't think my upgrade would do horrible by any means but its a street setup, just as i like it. if i were to auto-x...i would want suspension upgrades and rim/tire combo plus brake kit. and braking in the turns....its about the caliper...i'd feel more comfortable at a 6 POT. along with the SS lines, good rotors and a high boiling point brake fluid. as my friends have told me...when he did his alcons on his b5 s4....it made a HUGE difference over his stock calipers with upgraded rotors and pads.

but like i said....a 10 or 20 minute track event....worst case...you replace the rings at 150 which aint bad at all.

First off. PICS PLEASE!! Always need more pics for my site.

As for acceleration, in a customers car currently in the shop and Justin's car we saw 10 to 15 RPM per second increase in acceleration throughout most of the powerband in third gear (2000 to 7000 rpm). We do these kinds of acceleration calculations whenver making and testing any new product to verify proof of concept. We also do it in small rpm increments to see which mods affect which part of the power band. These kinds of small gains can hardly be felt by the "butt dyno" if not at all. However as you slowly put all the pieces together for a nice combonation the end result is a fast car. Unfortunatly with a Naturally Aspirated car like this the performance gains are small and the correct ones need to be combined. This is part of the fun for an all motor car, slowly getting it quicker and quicker and eventually taking down some fast cars and surprising yourself, since your "butt dyno" can't tell the story. Bottom line: there is no magic bullet unfortunately like a boosted car (up the boost).

Glad to see you are enjoying them thus far. Rears are in the works.

my mods are light weight rotors and no spare

soon...i'll do a light weight battery and then i'll work on vast piggies and undecided on the CB. then hopefully a JHM tune.

Re: JHM rotors installed, along with other stuff.

I just got my JHM lightweight rotors on too. Thought I would provide a review in your thread if you don't mind.

I did not do anything but Hawk front HPS pads and the JHM rotors. Like boost, it feels like my car brakes a little better, but I haven't done any concrete testing. I do notice the pedal feel now that you mention it boost. Next time I go to do my rear pads I'm probably going to do SS lines and a good fluid too. I was 50/50 on that when I bought the rotors and decided to wait and see.

Another thing, I'm not sure if I'm imagining this. Boost and Justin let me know if you noticed this... When I turn my car at low speeds now I notice more of a light steering input. I don't remember it ever being this light. I haven't really cornered hard yet because the weather sucks so bad right now. But I feel this even on very slow corner maneuvers. I have an Avant and it is super heavy. So I'm not sure if my car might be more noticeable when I drop unsprung weight in the front than a Sedan. I wouldn't think so, but maybe. In any event, it feels like they are doing something even at low speed.

Stuff on the car right now:

    Driveline
    Apikol rear diff mount
    Apikol engine snub mount
    JHM extra SS
    JHM shift knob

    Suspension & brakes
H-Sport RS4 swaybar kit (rear on low setting)
    Hawk HPS front brake pads
    JHM lightweight front rotors

As far as vision appeal - these rotors are beautiful. Nicely built/manufactured product.

No doubt they are top notch. They look beautiful. Now I just need some light weight wheels to further reduce the unsprung weight...

I got the same setup as b00st...JHM LW rotors and Hawk pads along with SS brake lines. Gonna wait to get mine installed.

Re: JHM rotors installed, along with other stuff.

The lines will make it a little harder with the need to bleed the system. But without the lines on a scale from 1-10

    for the rotors=2
for the pads.=3 you need to pay attention to the metal brake pad holder
brake lines...=4 you will need to bleed the system. not including bleeding the system the actuall line replacement is a 2.5 but replaceing the line is not all that dificult there is a few things you will need to remove

To make the pads easier to replace and taking the skill level back to a 2 for the install here is a tip.

When getting ready to remove the caliper. Stop for a sec and go to your tool box. Find a socket that will fit between the brake pads. When removing the caliper insert the socket between the brake pads to stop the brake pads from collapsing during the removal. From there just make sure to put in the pads on the piston side first. Before you remove the pad from the piston side. If you can find a way to compress the piston back into the housing (with the brake pad (old) still on this will help when you put in the new one. Just make sure to keep the caliper piston compressed and put on the other out side pad and the clips. Then reinstall the caliper ontop of the new light weight Rotor and bolt her all back together. In the end the front is very easy to do
If you don't have haters, then you're not kicking enough ass.

i paid to have it done. the lines are what requires the time. install the rotors is nothing. a 1 in difficulty....take older rotor off...put new on.
install pads is a 2. compress caliper...but pad in.
lines are a PITA...it requires time. not so much skill but its time plus bleeding the brakes.

b00st - do they use salt in your area? If so watch your lines and see if you have any rust forming on the ends where it screws to the line. I know that sounds counter intuitive, but I recently put some on mine around Thanksgiving and am beginning to see signs of corrosion. Mine were purchased through Blauparts, I have had luck with them in the past but this makes me question the quality

Yeah those do look nice. The ends are still exposed though and thats the part that I am suspecting. It will be interesting to see if they are affected like mine after some exposure. Hopefully not, but keep an eye out non the less.
