Question A little rough running at around 2200rpm

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anyone else had this problem and what was the fix. There are no codes and I feel as though its to consistent to be normal, at about 2100-2300rpm it sounds like its missing stuttering. Other than that its smooth as silk. Maybe the throttle body position sensor, maf, or foot peddle sensor? I have replaced all the packs so i'm sure its not this. I don't know how they are made but i imagine some use potentiometers and thats kind of how it feels no matter the temperature outside. What do ya'll think.

My car vibrates a little at 2000 rpm, is it like a vibrate in the steering wheel? probably motor mounts.

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

Maybe its my eyes but it appears as though when giving gas parked I see the needle dip a little at about 2200rpm like its dieing then picks back up. Like i said its silky smooth up to and past that point. Now if i try to stay right at the problem spot it seams normal just a little erratic its hard to get it right on the same position. I am pretty sure its not the peddle sensor because no matter were its at either feathering it or giving it alot it still has that bump.

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

If I hold the rpms exactly at 2000 though its a consistent rumble and does not go away, My father drove in the car and suggested it sounds like a miss. A friend of mine immediatly said motor mounts.

It seems to get better once the car is warm but never goes away

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

I recently had my car idling, and it did something similiar. The Check engine light when on- with some lighint bolt on it. I rev'ed her- and everything was fine again. But i feel that too- i havent been able to nail it to the rpm, but when i start as well, it dips for me. I thought it was the car shifting.

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

From 1900-2000 RPM my car has a stronger-than-usual vibration. I feel certain it is the motor mount. I estimate it will go away if I replace it, or get a snub mount.

It's probably a rear liquid filled mount on it's way out.. The front mountIMO wouldn't cause the vibration bc it's solid

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

All I can say is my car and another i've been in have this "problem" I personally don't feel it unless the car is in neutral and I rev it slowly up to that ~2000 rpm.

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

I feel a similar vibration in my car just under 2k rpm...probably ~1800. The only time this is noticeable is when i shift early and accelerate very slowly.

Car currently has 42k miles on it. ('04) Do you think motor mounts would be going this soon? Seems like alot of others are having the same issue.

How many miles are on your cars?

Do you remember this vibration when it was new?

My car does it also. I just went out to check it, and in neutral at 1800rpm, and 3800rpm it does it.

    My car is a 04 6mt, with 34,925 miles.

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

AFAIK these cars have an electrical sensor at the engine mounts that will give a code when the mounts are going.

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

Correct, but it will not trigger a CEL. You have to scan it to find the code in stored data. Leaking motor mounts are VERY common on these cars, I still have one for sale in the classifieds if anybody needs one.

Re: A little rough running at around 2200rpm

O man i have the SAME thing! i just bought my car and it has 70k on it (b7) so... motor mounts huh... how easy are they to replace? i motor swapped my b5 s4 and those mounts would be impossible to swap with out a motor pull? Is that the same case here?
