Why do you need to drop your crank? Can't you just undo a rod and slip out the rod bearing and put new ones in? If piston to valve clearance is an issue, can't you just rotate the crank?

what im thinking is that if the bearings went bad id inspect the piston sleeve and the crank....ive seen piston slap with bad bearings. usually when those bearings go bad the motor has seen alot so other things will be worn?

Ah, you said that because other things may need to be checked.

    Re: Rod Bearings

    Why?

You could half ass it and pull the oil pan and pull the connecting rods that way, but you will be likely to pull the piston down out of the cylinder that way causing you to remove engine cyl head and having to inevitably do what you should do to begin with. If you have no mechanical experience, this is NOT a job for you. And by your question you asked you have very limited experience. So I say leave it to an expert, in the long run you'll be better off.

PS wtf does this have to do with the mid west?
