What Is this? Boost Leak.....

I had the hood popped today and noticed a sound of air escaping coming from the right side of my Y pipe. I have suspected for a while that i may have a boost leak, and today was able to find where a leak was coming from. Can anyone tell me what this hose is and what is a possible fix? It has a crack in it and its one of those hoses covered by a cloth like material. thanks for any help.

Not sure what hose that is but that "cloth like material" is a braided vac line. They come OEM on our cars. They tend to dry rot and need to be replaced.

the reason for the braided fabric is it tells you when to replace the hose...and it disappates heat (supposedly).

i don't know what it is, but just pop it off, measure the inner diameter and replace it with hosing from local auto store. don't forget clamps.

sweet thanks a lot everyone. so, one other questions, with that line leaking, is it leaking boost? would that be the reason i dont feel like im boosting as much?

Yes that line is leaking boost/vac and it could be the reason your not feeling as much boost. Although im not sure what line that is so its hard to say. Do you gave a boost gauge?

not yet, i have one but its not in. i have a friend making a custom gauge pod for the center vent. waiting til i get that.

Yes get the gauge asap. that helps tons to see how your car is performing.

Also do you have vag-com to check it for codes? If by chance its going into limp mode it will feel slowwwwwwww.

I would also do boost leak test to make sure you dont have other leaks.

With our cars approaching 100k or more plus 8 years old its vital to check the old hoses and make sure they are good so its running in tip top shape to preserve the turbo's especially if you have it chipped.
