Talking Quick Photoshoot HDR - Updated [Clean] Pics

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
First time really taking pictures of the car, and first time really playing around with HDR. I think I got better at both as the shoot / editting progressed. Hope you enjoy the pictures, though. BTW, shots were taken with a Nikon D90 + 18-105 f/3.5-5.6 lens. I apologize in advance for the disgusting filth of my car, this was a super quick shoot, 15 minutes max, and I had to run. Hope you like it, though.

A better photoshoot is to follow with some of my friends.

Let me know what you think! [ps. I know I need a drop and tint.]

SORRY haha. It was a spur of the moment, snap some quickies for 10 minutes before having to go. Car will be clean when I get around to a real photoshoot.

Photomatix Pro. I've heard good things about Photoshop's automated feature, but I'm a photoshop n00b and couldnt figure out how to adjust all the tone mapping. Photomatix is super easy and user friendly

Considering how unforgiving the media is I would have washed first. Other than that, the colors really pop.

I bought the gf one for christams, and I've been taking pictures with it the whole time. Although not of my car otherwise she'll think I bought it soley to take pics of my car, which wouldn't suprise her i bet.

Thanks! I love the D90, although I think I may have messed up the lens somehow, gotta get it checked out, but having some issues where sometimes it won't focus, i think something wrong with the mount.

when that happens, just press the lens release button and then snap the lens back in place. I have the same issue w/ my D80. Nice pics btw. What range of exposure did you go for the HDR's? Are they built off of one image or did you take 3, 5, or 7 images?

really? how annoying is that though? ugh. is there anything we can do about it?
I set exposure bracketing to +-2 in 3 shot brackets. So i just hold it steady as as i can (no tripod) and hold it down for 3 exposures.

    Re: Quick Photoshoot HDR

hdr looks great, especially the last two. as far as composition goes, try following the rule of thirds, it's really more of a law haha. just divide the photo into thirds horizontally and vertically (so two lines going along each axis) and then try to line up major divisions in the photo with the thirds-lines. so the where the car meets the background should be a third of the way into the photo from the left side, not halfway through it

yeah i know the rule of thirds, i forgot it at the beginning. as i said, i think i progressed in both shooting and in editting as i went on in each hah

    Re: Quick Photoshoot HDR

Here is my first attempt at HDR last year. It really helps to use a tripod as well. As you can see, I didn't license photomatix at that point. How do you like the D90 btw? I have the D80 w/ the same lens you have and I love it. I have been thinking of upgrading to the D90 for the video feature. Do you have any samples of your HD video's?

I love it. I don't use the video feature really that often, it looks insanely good on the camera screen, and pretty good sized on the computer (i shoot in the highest video setting available cuz, why not? haha). I'll go ahead and try to take a sample video sometime, i'll pm you so u can see, or pm me to remind me haha.

Sooo... I washed the car, but didn't have as much time to shoot photos. Didn't have a good spot to shoot where the sun was at at the time. Two were well composed out of five, so here they are.

I have a D90 with the same lens (and a 70-200mm f/2.8) and I had no idea that our camera could do such a good job outdoors. I've just been using it to shoot college hoops.

Man, I need to take some camera classes or something.

Exposure Bracketing (ie. take three photos of the same thing, one at normal exposure one at brightened, one at darkened - the camera should have a setting for this) and then on photoshop "Merge to HDR". Photomatix is also a good program.

@...Mark... hah in fact there are two clean pics just above your post xD

@charliemike oh yeah, the camera is really great. I'm about to get a super-wide-angle lens for it, which I'm really excited for.
