    Buying a B6 A4

I've been eyeing this car for sometime now it's a light blue manual B6 3.0 A4 AWD. Please don't flame me for this post, but really i've been having trouble making a decision I'm almost certain I've decided i'm going to get a B6 A4, but I have mixed feelings about what color to get. I know the light blue is really common among the asian cars, but I have absolutely fallen in love with the way it looks on an RS4 and a VW R32. I need some other opinions, if I get new rims (probably replica RS4 rims), paint the lowers to match the paint job, get a new grill, and probably get a new exhaust, do you think I would be able to pull it off? Please let me know, if you think it'll be poserish go ahead and say it, be completely honest.

    lowers don't look painted

definately check for to see if the timing belt has been done, and run a carfax, also I would look for the 2004 range but you can do whatever you want.

    Re: Buying a B6 A4

If you're planning on doing mods, go with a 1.8. If you just want something nice to get you around and aren't planning mods, pull the trigger.
Personally, I'd look for a newer 1.8 as others have said. Depending on how you're planning on paying for it, you may want to look around here. There are some great cars with mods already done to them.
I know you were asking about color, so my answer to that question is how important is color to you? It was pretty important for me. Maybe not so much for others.

i regret having a beige interior. its just ugly when you compare it to a black interior.

i also have the 3.0 and regret not getting the 1.8. the 1.8 less powerfull stock but with a stage 1+ tune, its about as fast as a 3.0. so if you plan on doing any mods, get the 1.8. the 1.8 is also a lot more fuel efficient. i average 16-18 with my 3.0 although i have an extremely heavy foot.

that car also doesnt have sport package so the rid height is very high and the handling is shit.

if i were buying a car right now, i would get a b5 s4. they can be had for 10-12k for one with fairly low miles and they are super fast when chipped.

    Re: Buying a B6 A4

I own a 3.0L and I wouldn't change that for the world. I'm over my modding days and wanted something with more luxury features. I average about 31+ mpg to and from work (mostly highway), so I can't compare there. Unlike some, I love the two-tone beige interior. The Florida sun can get quite hot, and having a black interior makes it that much more unbearable inside. You'll also get a better resale value with the 3.0, so that's something to keep in mind.

I agree except for getting a B5S4. They're fast out of the box, but they're less reliable than a B6. Also I like the body type, but it's getting pretty dated. The fuel efficency is also something that I forgot to mention about the 1.8 vs 3.0. Don't know if that matters to you or not. Although after you've added a few mods to the 1.8, it'll burn up fuel if you get up on it.

If you like it go for it! That's all that's important. I do like that color though, it's called Ocean Blue Pearl Effect BTW. I would consider getting a 3.0 if I got another A4.

really? i honestly think that blue color is pretty rare. modded tastefully it would look wicked.

i saw a stock b6 with painted lowers and for some reason it looked funny to me. i liked my unpainted lowers a lot more.

find someone with carfax and do some research on the cars history , check maintenance records. timing belt is a $$$ on 3.0's

with that color i would def. get the 19" RS4 reps from VMR, the badgeless grill from lltek.com, tint, and exhaust. The 3.0's sound nice with an exhaust, esp. with an intake as well. You can def. pull it off

They had smaller oil filters, and it wasn't until 2003 that synthetic was mandatory at all Audi Dealers so it's not unheard of for a 2002 to not have synthetic in the first part of it's life.

For those of you that are wondering why I prefer a 3.0 over a 1.8 is because the only mods i really want to make to my car are cosmetic and i'll probably eventually want to throw a b*tchin exhaust on it to get it to purr. I feel the 3.0 limits me so i won't go crazy and dump hoards of money into various mods, not that it's a bad thing, but just isn't for me at the moment. I have a few more questions if you guys don't mind. I know the timing belt is a must if it isn't already replaced, but how much money do you guys think i'll be spending on repairs within the first year? generally what kind of repairs are they? In the subject of painting my lowers, do you guys suggest I personally paint my lowers or would you recommend having a shop do it for me? how much would I expect to pay for this type of work?

I appreciate all the feedback, I'm happy I finally found a good audi forum that has responsive and active members. I really praise you guys for helping me through this process.

if you can get a pretty good paint match , and experienced painting car parts then personally DIY. if not then get a pro shop to paint it for you prices will range from $300-600 depending on who you talk to.

depending on the year and condition on the car , most likely oil changes. most of us are somewhat motor savvy so that's something you could do on your own. oil+filter $40-60

coil packs are something that could go , its inevitable on the 3'rs as well.. cost to fix depends on how many blow. average price for packs can range $30-45 per.

simple maintenance work really , oil , fluids , tires , brakes that's all i foresee if the cars in good condition.

i like that line, but i think you will not find an end to modding these whether its exhaust, headers, short shifters, rims, differentials, suspension, brakes, it never ends!

but its a rare and beautiful color IMO, just paint the lowers
