    Using newspaper to dry windows?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anyone ever heard of wiping the windows with a damp towel, then wiping them dry with newspaper?

Because of it's ink, it's supposed to polish it, and it doesn't leave streaks I heard?

Ever run your finger across a newspaper before??? See all that ink it leaves? Well, I'm told and believe that there are minerals that are actually harmful to the glass/windows and can scratch them as well, besides leaving them dirty. So use a microfiber towel instead :D

Well I've heard that you wipe your windows with the newspaper and then you clean it off with something else, so the newspaper acts as a polish... Why you need a polish on your windows, I dunno, they just need to be clean.

Re: Using newspaper to dry windows?

i used to do it all the time and it works fine (now i just use waffle weave mircrofiber window towels exclusively). leaves a streak free finish. i had heard before that using newspaper originated back in the day when the ink used to print on them was some kind of kerosene based ink or something which aided in cleaning the windows...or something like that...

Do it, I do it sometimes and gives me a great finish. If you have tinted windows, I would not be so sure af using it in the interior, I guess it can scratch the film.

Using newspaper is one of those "oldschool" recipies that have been forgotten, but that work great.

Using a MF will also give you great results, but be sure it is 100% clean and free of soap.

Re: Using newspaper to dry windows?

Do you guys just use a regular dry Microfiber cloth, or do you guys use some type of spray?

This weekend I'll do half the window with the Microfiber, and half with the newspaper, and compare!

Agreed. If it's between paper towels and newspaper, use newspaper (no streaks/ink/scratches..). If you can use two microfiber towels, one for cleaning - and one for wiping dry, use MF towels.

Newspaper gives a good streak-free shine. MF is good too.

Thats correct.. and its defiantly an old school recipe for cleaning windows.

Waffle Towel and Stoner Invisible Glass works well for me.

    Cheers

Newspaper only for glass surface. I wouldn't use it on your tint.

Also, you can get a bundle of MF towels at Costco for cheap. I use that stuff on everything.
