I would like to install a fmic on my avant but i am pretty sure that here in cali it is illegal. I am just wondering if there are any of you who are using a fmic. Have you gotten warned by the police or asked to pop your hood if you go pulled over for it?

    Re: FMIC

i have heard of a few people with them and they have gotten pulled over in states that do emission testing. They had to pop open the hood for the cop and got busted for the fmic + w/e other mods they had. i was just checking if any norcal guys were getting hassled by their local pd.

    Re: FMIC

i'm def not from out there nor do i kno any of the rules of the road (so correct me if i'm wrong) but when i went to UTI in chicago, we were told that as long as a mod that you had on u'r cars out there has a CARB EO# that you couldnt be ticketed for it... again, sorry for u'r emission and strict laws out there...

    Re: FMIC

if u really wanted to, you could go to the ref station and get your car BAR'd. they do a sound decibel and emissions test and will give you BAR stickers for whatever parts you have. its similar to a CARB sticker. if you're worried about a front mount you could always go that route

    Re: FMIC

in a discussion about this before, any factory turbocharged car can have an intercooler added, even if it doesnt come one from the factory with out a carb e/o.

    Re: FMIC

I'm using a FMIC, shouldn't be a problem. It's just aftermarket parts after all. Cops usually won't check the CARB cert. even if they do pull you over, and they most likely won't suspect anything because its a european midsize sedan.

    Re: FMIC

i had my front mount on my old stage 3+ b6 for about 3 years (both LA and the BAY and all my trips back and forth - pretty much all of CA and even trips to VEGAS ), been pulled over many times for speeding, illegal front tint, received tickets for no front plates, and lots of parking tickets in SF ... but never have I been pulled over for my fmic and its pretty obvious that i have one (all silver, not the black coated ones that ER sells). I have never even been asked to pop my hood either. Big difference between Audi and honda / acura / all jdm cars.

the only time you will have issues with your FMIC is if you try to get a smog check when its due or when you try to sell your car. finding a place that will smog with your fmic on is pretty hard ... unless you have the prementioned CARB # in the previous posts.

    go for it!

here is a pic of my old car - the FMIC stands out especially through the caractere front bumper

Current: 2014 Cadillac CTS-V Black Raven Wagon 556hp of pure blisssss
    SOLD: 2002 S6 AVANT
FORMER: 2003 A4 1.8TQ 5M MODS: APR Stage 3+ (thats all that matters) - she will be missed ...

    Re: FMIC

yea if your not driving a Honda you shouldn't have much to worry about. my brother has a integra and has got hassled for his CARB LEGAL intake and headers. i know alot of the cops in the bay area and i have asked them what they look for in modded cars. and all they say is CAN type muffler mostly on hondas and rice .

the other night i got pulled over for my front plate(euro) and that was all the officer was worried about. ( lol while my car is sitting there idling with straight pipe)

Mine is black and not even noticeable under my stock bumper. (pipes are black too).

Got pulled over for no front plate, but never for a FMIC.
