I feel like it can be done nicely... its

2.0L, turbo charged, direct injeted 4 cylinder. Forged rods, aluminum head... - 290hp, 340 ftlbs of torque.... thats an excellent baseline. There is a solid aftermarket building as well.... so what is it?



and a couple easy ass cosmetic mods, its already much nicer looking

I think they're hideous! That not me being biased, I just think they're really ugly. FWD or RWD? Scion xB looks much better IMO, doesn't have the power though. That would be a good sleeper though. I'd much rather have a Subie Forester like this one. 300ish hp/tq with simple mods.

If I were in your position I would definitely go for the new Cobalt SS... I think the car you chose looks ugly either way sorry. Its all about what you think though so drive it and decide if you like it get it.

Get a GTO and do a Holden body conversion. Sorry that HHR just hurts my eyes, and I doubt anyone would give you props for making it sleeper, probably lots of pity for buying it though.

The G8 GT's are sick cars. I honestly don't think the HHR looks THAT bad but it definitely could use some work on the back end, twin 3" exhaust on each side, maybe smoked tails and I don't think it would be that ugly.

If you are dying to have something kinda ugly, sorta fast, and built in the good ole US of A, go with the new cobalt ss. Its got less ugly than the hhr, more go fast, and all the "git R dun" type engineering you are looking for.

the price on the forrester is AT LEAST 10K more then the HHR....but at the same time it is a subbie...the HHRSS is 22K base price..

I did look into it after seeing it here and im not that impressed any more...its 260 claimed hp and 260 pounds of torque..BUT its tested at a high 14 1/4 mile time even with its "launch" control..however it did pull a mid 8min run at nurburgring..which isnt anything special for a car but not bad for its class..its got good suspention and great possibility for improvement if you buy the manual..

The automatic is a diff. story..its got lower hp and a off the shelf Chevy tranny...blah..slop.. I think I am still going to test drive one just for fun to see how it does.

Cool features?? Actually its got a few cool things.. altitude variable boost..high altitudes get a boost adjustment.. sea level is 15-18...high altitude is 21..cool feature but I wonder how it does when boost is turned up. I didnt see anything about forged internals but then again I didnt look for it. Its got a speed shift feature which allows u to shift without letting go of the throttle and GM states that it cuts 0.07 off every shift.

Honestly, I wouldn't be caught dead in an HHR. That car(/hearse) is just straight up ugly, and there's no amount of mods in the world that would fix it. Personally I would much rather buy something like the Forester, but if your stuck on buying American (actually Japanese but owned by Ford) why not go for something like the Mazda Speed 3. 2.3L, 4-cylinder direct-injection, turbocharged, 263 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque, 0-60 in 5.8, 26mpg hwy and 18mpg city, starts at $23000, and it doesn't look like your coming from a funeral.

G8 GT if you got the coin for it... Those are amazing. I would rock one for daily in a heartbeat, LOADS of legroom, multi displacement people are averaging 26-28mpg highway.. Loads of power, easy power mods, HUGE potential (check out the twin turbo cars out there...)

If you want more of a sportier car, I'd definitely check out the Cobalt SS.. They can be monsters.

I would honestly not consider the HHR... really boring, and wishy washy suspension, just inadequate in every way... Not to mention you have to convince yourself on the looks department, that should never have to happen.

Keep in mind, the HHR SS has only got 260bhp/260tq stock.

Those higher #'s are with the GM tune. Not that the #'s are bad, quite the opposite. In fact, most are dynoing around 240whp/255wtq!

Not a fan of the HHR at all, but the new LNF Ecotec engine (the one with direct injection and the K04 turbo, also in the Cobalt SS/TC) is a good motor, with PLENTY of room for tuning and extra power.

Plus GM have temporarily solved their brake rotor issues on these cars with Brembos, so that's a plus!

the new cobalt SS has the same engine and features and does a 0-60 in 5.6 sec. and 1/4 miles in a 14.2 stock...and it looks better
