    Re: Brake Pad

HPS are nice but they do not have glue layer to prevent noise on rough roads.
ATE sold by Tirerack are just like OE pads with glue - no noise.
HPS work great- nice pedal feel.
Right now using Porterfield R4S- great pad.

    Re: Brake Pad

I have had my Hawk HPS in for 6 months now. Never heard a squeak from them, better bite then stock, and virtually no dust. They are not overkill at all.

I had a set of stock pads in that were new a few months prior that I COOKED, with a little aggressive driving, with the Hawks I have done that and more and they have withstood the abuse.

I had Akebono ceramic pads on my allroad. No squealing at all. They were great. Added the ss brake lines, between the two, it made it a whole new car.

    Re: Brake Pad

If you want to maintain the pad wear sensor your best bet is the Hawk HPS. It's not overkill and well worth it simply for less dust. Stop thinking about it and just do it. I smile whenever I see a fellow German car owner and that common darkened front wheels.

    Re: Brake Pad

Mintex Reds are utter crap. I've seen too many people report WORSE braking with Mintex than OEM.

Ceramic pads aren't really better than OEM. I had a pair of Axxis Ultimates, and they started cracking after a winter season.

    Hawk HPS are really good.

Don't forget about your brake fluid. If running regular DOT4 fluid, it needs to be flushed out completely every 2 years regardless of miles (this includes Motul 5.1 synthetic). The agressive fluids (like Motul RBF600) should be flushed yearly. This will also help braking performance.

    Re: Brake Pad

Just placed order at tirerack for Hawk HPS - was going to get them from ECS but ECS was $8 more expensive lol - silly way to lose a sale since most of it was shipping

Anyway, ordered pads. Rotors from Adam are coming.

    Remaining things to buy:

Lines, Fluid, New Wheels (If anyone has STRAIGHT WHEELS 18'' around US$1200)

and then i'm set until I go home in 6 months and then I'll work on Motor or buy a new car

Unless your taking the car to the track and doing lots of agressive driving, you don't need different brake lines.

    Re: Brake Pad

Hawk HPS. Good choice. Better bite, low dust. Not overkill at all. I'd argue that SS lines are a good upgrade for a street car, especially the B6 which has such a soft pedal. better pads + SS lines and your car will have much inproved braking and a firmer pedal feel.

pretty sure that your low pad warning won't come on until the pads are virtually non-existant. ie. when the warning light comes on get the pads changed immediately, you won't have more than 1000 miles left on the pads.

I have a 2005 A4 Cabriolet (B6). I think you guys sold me on the Hawk HPS. Do I want to get them with or without wear sensors? Seems that the ones without are more expensive. Thoughts?

With wear sensors. If I didn't care about keeping the stock break wear indicator feature, I would have gone Ferodo 2500.

    Re: Brake Pad

    So do I go with:

    HPS Street brake pads
    http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...del&perfCode=S

    or

    HPS Performance Ceramic Pads?
    http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...del&perfCode=P

Since I have a 2005 A4 Cabriolet (no upgrades except for K&N drop-in filter), noise is a big concern, as I'll hear more with the top down. Thoughts?

Both of your links go to the HPS street pads. I recommend the street over the ceramic. the street bite faster when cold and are less likely to squeal.

PBR / Axxis are the worst pads next to raybesto's.

Is tirerack the cheapest place to buy the Hawk HPS? or is there any place cheaper?
