Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey, just put some hids into my fog lights. I wasn't able to contact the manufacturer today and im not sure if their open tomorrow. Anyways....they turn on but they flicker on and off and i get the light bulb out warning for both sides. Anyone else have this issue or know what i can do to fix it? thanks

Re: HID + fog lights issue

sounds like the ones you got aren't drawing enough power. just like the rear plate lights. What did brand/kit did you get so people know so they can try to help.

You might need error cancelers which regulate the wattage as well as eliminate the bulb out warning. Mercedes tend to always need these as well.

I have 35 Watt HID fogs using the stock wiring with no problems at all. If they are flickering, it sounds like you may have gotten a crappy set of ballasts. I have about 25,000 miles with these installed and have the fogs on for a good amount of the time.

Re: HID + fog lights issue

flickering could be a few things, bad connections, faulty ballast. I would check your ground wires to see if everything is ok, if you use oem ground, sometimes it might not do the trick.

to eliminate the bulb warning, you need to use either a relay or resistors to trick the car.

    hope this helps!

You may eliminate both flickering and bulb out warning by adding a couple of caps.
    Check out this thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=218964
I had the flickering problem before I installed a set of caps but I never encountered a bulb out warning.

Well, mine does not work at all
They do if I connect them directly to the battery but if I use the car harness, they dont lit at all. I am fuck^$% pissed off

yes, I did. Everything assembled and connected to the car harness, they don't work. If I take the same assembly and jump it with 2 wire to the battery, they do work!!! WTF
I don't want to start the relay bullshit !!!

im gonna go with the cap idea first...if that doesn't work i'll go with the relay. Are the relays' just a cap in a nice package?

i mean....if you look at the relays, it's just a box with two wires..i was just wondering if it's just a capacitor inside that box.

yep that's how the kit came. And you did not have any issue? Plugged directly to the harness? No fault code?

I'm sorry...but I don't see the point. The Hoen H11 bulbs match the Xenon and look great. Why are you both going through so much trouble to have brighter fogs? It seems like it's a big hassle for a marginally better result, at least from pics.

The flickering is usually caused by a voltage irregularity that is commonly fixed with a capacitor to adjust for the voltage difference but in your case maybe the Warning Code eliminators from DDM tuning might take care of this. I would talk to Autobahn Exotics if they carry them.

I will be ordering a set for my MKV this week as well. Im going to ask if they offer installation there. I rather not deal with the headache.

This is a freaking nightmarre !!
I had to remove the bumper again yesterday to try something that Nick recommended. Same result. Good thing = I can pull and reinstall the bumper now in less than 20mn. The bad thing is the HID still don't Fu@&^ work! When plugged to the car harness = Nothing but they do work if connected to the battery directly

How do you have the kit hooked up? Is the ballast directly connected to the stock harness or are you using some kind of harness with a relay. If you have any kind of relay, you will get a bulb out warning. Try eliminating any kind of relay from your setup. That should solve the bulb out warning, and the cap will get rid of the flickering. Let me know if it worked out for ya.

Well, I have a problem here:
If I start to dice the harness and at the end it still doesn't work, I am fucked
I purchased this kit from Autobahn asking especifically if it was plug and play and was not throwing any code> The answer form them was YES !

Re: HID + fog lights issue

stock fog light connector -- connected to -- connector (only one that fits, but upside down to make it work) -- that is connected to the ballast -- that is split into two wires ( which also have a fool proof connection, only one way to connect) -- which is attached to the hid bulb.

The whole setup is pretty much fool proof in my opinion, each connector has a specific and one to connect too. When i contacted DDMtuning about this, they told me to flip over the connector that connects to the stock audi wire. I had to cut off some plastic tabs so it would work but this is the only way my bulbs light up. It was my own fault i didn't test this with the car on, as it worked just fine with the car off. I dont even know how to take the stupid bumper off so i had to do all of this by force in some cases. (left side i had to squeeze my hand into tight spots to find wires and on the right side i had to pull back the wheel well cover to access the back side of where the right fog light is located. I had a bitch of a time getting my under belly plastic pan out so that is why i had to go this route.

It is quite a pain what im trying to accomplish with these hids but i think in the end it will be cool. halogen HID look alike bulbs just do any justice to the real thing in my opinion that is why i'm trying to get this to work.

ok, what i did is the same as you, i shaved off the tab of the last pic...but i also cut the little tab on the inside....this way you can put it on backwards to the stock fog connector on the car...if this doesn't work, my only other comment would be that the stock connector doesn't put enough juice....which makes no sense since mine puts out enough for the 55w kit. I would keep tying to get ahold of the company that sold it to you.

Yeah, I think I have the same problem: I spoke with the wholeseller and they have a problem with a batch who has the power plug inverted. Rather than trim the inside of the connector, if you look closely inside where the contacta are, at the bottom of the contact, you can see a little square piece of plastic. With a small screwdriver, push this little square towards the outside of the connector and the wire will become free. Then, you just have to swap them and click them back in place.
I can't try right now because the bumper is back in place, I'll do it this WE and will keep you posted

Re: HID + fog lights issue

    It's getting worse!!
I finally figured out the wiring issue on the kit (wires were crossed) and now they power ON but blink like a turn signal. WTF
Called the wholeseller (1 hr on hold) to get the anser: Problem comes from the car computer, you need "code canceller"
Called Nick at Autobahn (he was not in the office today) and he does not understand why I need additional hardware since apparently, he sold a lot of the same kits than mine and never had any issue (beside the wiring). He will contact the Wholeseller next week to check what is going on.
Bottom line, HID kit still in the box for a week now, removed the bumper 4 times ( I am getting good at it) and I am pissed !
