subwoofer box facing forward towards the trunk?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i have had twin 12's in a ported box in my audi sense i bought it but always had the box facing the trunk. the face of the subwoofers and the large port (releases air) are on one side of the box. problem is, i would need a longer wire to turn the subwoofer box around and face the cabin (long story) should i hunt this wire down and do it? anyone have their subs facing the inside of the car? i would thing that this would slightly help in trunk rattle too? thanks for any input. ill post some pictures for the fun of it pretty soon

Generally, the sub should always face the trunk, unless u have a custom enclosure that points sideways. Do a google search on it

Re: subwoofer box facing forward towards the trunk?

it would depend on what subs you are running. if you position the subs towards you, you will not feel it as much as you think it would. The rattle, should be the same because the waves would come back to the trunk. Might help a bit though.

As the above person said, most people have it facing the trunk, and when it hits, it sends the wave towards you (after whatever can escapes). in this case you can feel it more. Ported boxes should face the trunk, you dont want all that extra air going into the cabin and might not sound as good as before.

As for that wire, go to radio shack and get some speaker wire, not sure what gauge wire you are using, but buy that and make a longer piece.

Re: subwoofer box facing forward towards the trunk?

alright thanks i turned it around facing the trunk. I probably shouldnt start a new thread to ask how you guys are strapping these boxes down. I know alot of guys have built in subs. but for those who just have a box, how did you secure the box from moving around?

Re: subwoofer box facing forward towards the trunk?

ya the subs should generally be facing the trunk. I also have a ford explorer with a sub in the back and its all open from the back to the front (audi has the seats blocking the way) and when the sub hits, the sound waves bounce off the trunk and then get sent forward to the front of the cabin, and this is the way to get the most from your subs. so i would say dont worry about getting the longer wire, but can always go buy and and try and it out to see how sounds and then if you dont like it as much just swap it back around. it might also not have enough space for the air to move around if its ported and facing the back seats.

Re: subwoofer box facing forward towards the trunk?

ya i think the best way would to be to srap it down. i used velcro before and that held it so tight that i had to cut the velcro with a knife when i got a flat tire (to remove the sub box to open the hatch for the spare). plus, the velcro would alow it to move just enough to slap both sides of the car, one side has the amp so i dont want that happening. anyone have any pictures of their set ups with a box?

Re: subwoofer box facing forward towards the trunk?

the cargo net has always served me well to hold the box.

mounted my amp to the seat back (the smaller one).

I have my sub screwed into the side of the trunk and to the spare cover (the floor of the trunk) using L brackets, then I have the amp screwed to the back of the seat. Works well for me

i'll take a better pic tomorrow... they are 12" rocford fosgate punch p1's in sealed box.. box is wide enough to just barely fit between the wheel wells. no probs w/ it moving around. one great thing about the audi... a huge ass box and still plenty of trunkspace!!! i'll try putting up a better pic later!!

Re: subwoofer box facing forward towards the trunk?

the net was mainly to keep stuff from pushing up against the woofers... as you can see, i had a full trunk at the time and didnt want anything rattling.. i usually have the net down.. when there's nothing in there

Re: subwoofer box facing forward towards the trunk?

leave the subs facing the trunk, This causes a barrier so the sound waves from the bass will bounce off the trunk giving you better sound.. the the only other way i would go would be to custom build a box then port it into the cab of the car, so it would be more like a truck or SUV when it comes to more sound waves and more bass because it has more room to move around and this method also sounds the best... :)

Mine face inwards and sound great and yes i have minimal trunk rattle. My box is fully sealed though so i don't know how well it would work with a ported box and your sub setup.

start w/ u'r trunk empty... take u'r net and hook it at the 4 corners of the trunk. then put u'r subs in on top of the net. once the subs are in, push them back as far as they'll go, then take the front 2 clips and hook them to the roof of u'r trunk.. u'r speakers are actually sitting on top of the net then the net goes up in front of the speakers

np... i kinda thought that was a poorly thought way of doing it at first but the elasticity of the net keeps stuff from hitting the speakers and vibrating..

word, I might just try this, since my net is just sitting in that side storage thingy.
