Question Whats the newest Coilpack series?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I need to replace coilpacks and I'm trying to figure out what are the latest and best ones to buy. Hitachi E's or the Brimi R's? Or are there others I am missing?

    thanks a lot

    Joe

I don't want to go OEM, since I've replaced a full set of OEM packs twice.....just wanted to see which non-OEM packs were best to use.

i have no idea how long it had been in there, since ive owned the car only 7000 kms, but i just had a sti coilpack fail with no warning a couple days ago...

and a second one minutes later, i just went and got 4 brand new R factory bremi coilpacks, ill be keeping the extra 2 still fonctionning coils in the trunk just in case.

    just like everybody else

I just blew a R on my wife's A4, I am going to get some Hitachi E on the car, Why, because on my old beetle with over 100K miles I never had a coilpack blow...EVER. My buddy has over 150+ K miles and nothing, not to say they will never go, bnut less likely, just remember to have a spare allen key in the car once you go bolt down.

Re: Whats the newest Coilpack series?

Just FYI ECS tuning has come up with a solution to the version "R" coilpacks. It was posted on the B6 section a couple days ago. It sounds like a good mod considering the R's have proven to create more spark in comparsion to the Hitachi or Beru's.

This mod bolts down the coilpacks, giving the same effect as the other coilpacks on the market. This would be beneficial in those situation where you don't want to wait a couple days for the Hitachi or Berus to be ordered

I saw that and I really don't understand its purpose (other than looks). If your coil packs need to be bolted down you have a problem. If your coil packs are popping up either the plug is loose or you are getting blow-by between the plug base and ceramic insulator.

I would tend to agree with OG, the VW design is bolted down, but the shaft part of the coilpack is not made the same as the R so they do not hold themselves the same way as the R, I would guess this is why the Hitachi are bolted down, to prevent lateral movement, or an anal engeneer at VW thought it would be better this way, "you know the germans make good stuff", but I would be surprised to see the different models have more or less spark capacity, and even so, I may be willing to give up some performance for some added reliability (I hope).

Bolting down OEM B6 coilpacks is completely unnecessary.

    Not really.

And I still prefer running the R OEM coils to the Hitachis (which I've also ran for a while).

I have 2 STI CP's and no problems. They were on my car when I got it, but have no idea where the dealership got them (it was an MB dealership).

Any info on the STI's as compared to R's or other non-OEM?
