    Quick Brake Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm doing the 3.0 brake upgrade on my car and I just found a deal on a set of carriers. My question is, did the USP's use different brakes at all or are they the same as the standard 3.0? The carriers I'm looking at are off of a totalled USP. Thanks.

    Re: Quick Brake Question

So what's the breakdown on brakes? (no pun intended) B7 2.0 carriers along with the bigger rotors and dust shields give you more swept area. What about the carriers from a B7 3.2? Do they work with the calipers from the 1.8 B6 cars? I'm looking for an affordable brake upgrade.

This is a commuter car so I don't see the economy of spending big bucks on brakes, but I hate the stock brakes on my Avant. Especially after I've driven my TT or my S4.

    Re: Quick Brake Question

If you can find stock b7 brakes used, that would be the best bang for few bucks. 320mmF 288mmR rotors, and the calipers are much larger too.

    Re: Quick Brake Question

The 3.0 already has the same size brakes as the b7's.

And no the USP doesn't have bigger brakes.

    Re: Quick Brake Question

If you don't want to spend big bucks, just buy better pads when you get around to the next brake job. Better pads can make a huge difference. Of course this opens a can of worms from everyone what the best pads are.

    Re: Quick Brake Question

I'm buying better pads as well (PBR Ultimate Ceramics) but I just picked up the carriers for $40 bucks so I figured I might as well go to 312 considering the front rotors are pretty well grooved. Thanks again for the help guys.

    Re: Quick Brake Question

Put it this way... There cheapest setup is $429 w/o pads. I'm paying $220 with $75 pads. Not to knock ecs because I've bought a lot from them in the past but that kit is way over priced.

    Re: Quick Brake Question

A caliper stiffening kit makes a big improvment in the stock setup also, for $100 or less, for a DIY setup. I used a 1/2" shoulder bolt, and a bronze bushing sized on the OD, to replace the rubber caliber guide bushings. The improvment in the responsiveness of the stock brakes is amazing.
