do you think the fairing makes a big difference? I had one on on my Gti and never got one for my avant. Are you happy with it?

    Re: racks and fairing..

I put one on and it got slightly louder... Personally I think its a hit or miss. If you have a lot of noise up there, or if you've got some big upright bike carriers I'd say there's a good chance it will make a difference.

    Re: racks and fairing..

I stopped using mine because you would get dirt on the foam pads that are on the bottom of the feet and then over time it will cause 4 little scratches on the roof where they make contact.

    Re: racks and fairing..

I have a Yakima one, but I stopped using it on the avant for reasons stated above. It gets in the way of the moonroof too. It cut down wind noise on my subaru wagon, but on the avant it didn't do much at all.

    Re: racks and fairing..

It'll scratch the roof. That is what happened to my friend's B5.

I don't use one because my cargo box comes forward of the leading cross-bar so it'll be a waste.

I used to use the big ass Thule one from the mid '90s on my VWs and Jeep but its sitting in my basement right now for reasons I just gave one sentence ago.

The Yakima fairing comes with clear bra squares also.
I was getting wind noise on my avant with my Yakima Steelhead setup. The fairing took care of the noise!

    my roof is clear-bra'd.

THe fairing helps with noise... that's it.

But it's not really needed when you have a newer roof box.

    Re: racks and fairing..

I've got a Yakima setup with snowboard carriers turned down right now to help MPG. There is tons of noise and whistles on the freeway.

Should this help reduce noise and possible MPG?
