Looking at a 2002 Avant Quattro

2002 with 69k for 11,900, is there anything other then the timing belt i should ask/check?

I am assuming 1.8T is the engine...

rear coolant flange replaced?
rear coolant sensor replaced?
oil change interval used?
oil used?
all recalls and service bulletins up to date?
timing belt / water pump replaced (OR checked by certified Audi shop.... to adhere to the service bulletin?

I think that's it off the top of my head outside of general physical condition of the vehicle.

service history is always nice, just to make sure it's made its oil changes etc.
people mention sludge issue on 02's, but that is more a case of proper maintenance.
-give a good listen to be turbo
-clutch slippage

coolant leaks- rear coolant flange/rear temp sender are common things. cheap parts, hard job, but do-able.

I would ask for maintenance paperwork if they have it and absolutely grill them about the oil change frequency and type. Bring a flashlight and have a look through the oil fill hole... there will be some crusty black stuff but if its a lot then I'd be suspicious. If you're handy and have some sealant you could pull the valve cover.

Obviously check for leaks for all types of fluids and check everything that you can to make sure that everything works... seat heaters, lights, SUNROOF, lights, etc etc. Just be meticulous and definitely use your intuition when deciding what kind of person is selling the car... someone who is meticulous and careful... or someone who uses a car to get from A to B and wouldnt notice horrible noises until the car breaks and stops moving.
