Thumbs up Cleaning NAV screen - any advice?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
any advice? Mine has a bit of a cloudy look to it (when turned off...when on not a HUGE deal, but enough that I want to clean it)

I rubbed it with a barely damp cloth once to get dust off, but not sure if that was the best idea. Looks like shit when the screen is off, so I'd love to fix it up. Any help appreciated as always.

    Thanks

I'd try some laptop screen cleaner. Maybe something like Klear Screen.

Re: Cleaning NAV screen - any advice?

I had a bad experience with my previous BMW. I took off the protective coating on the screen. You can use an LCD screen/TV cleaner (monster makes one and can be purchased from bestbuy or any other electronic store) and use a cloth for cleaning glasses (the ones you wear to see better) to remove the dust every week or so.

If you want, why not get a screen protector for it? This one on eBay looks legit. Guy has over 45k feedback. ~$16

That stuff is poison. Took the rubberized plastic right off my shift plate in my old B5. In fact, it did it so well I decided to strip the entire plate with just meguiars.

I bought one of these and did not like it. I thought I cleaned the nav screen very well, but when I applied the protector, it formed bubbles. I emailed the seller and he said to wash it off with mild soap and warm water and let it dry in the sun..... well, the protector was never clean from then on.... but this is just my experience with this product.

Re: Cleaning NAV screen - any advice?

lol dry in the sun. Funny instruction. I guess we have to find new idea. Maybe the cloudiness is actually a screen problem not stuff on the screen? Maybe it was just fingerprint oil that you smeared around with the wet damp cloth?

Damp micro fiber towel (warm water) is your friend. Dry it right away with a dry towel and you'll be set.

Re: Cleaning NAV screen - any advice?

I originally used a damp microfibre towel. I now have cloudscreen. Maybe I didn't dry it well enough

    so far the suggestions are...

    1. screen protector from ebay - rebuffed by Zak Effron
    2. Meguiarz interior detail - rebuffed by Zak Effron and JMZ
    3. damp cloth - rebuffed by me (maybe because I didn't dry it though)
    4. 1Z cockpit cleaner - rebuffed by nobody
    5. LCD screen cleaner from Bestbuy etc. - rebuffed by nobody

Re: Cleaning NAV screen - any advice?

1z cockpit detailer is great stuff (I swear by it), but I would be careful on the nav screen. You could always try it and let us know how it works out.... haha

And my first post, i said to use LCD cleaner....

This is the cheapest you can get Monster ScreanClean.

    http://www.onsale.com/shop/detail.as...rce=bwbfroogle

This product omits chemicals that can deteriorate the TFT on LCD's.

Re: Cleaning NAV screen - any advice?

I personally would not use any kind of chemical regardless of what they are "made for".
When I used to support this expensive as hell imaging equipment (monitors were $50k alone) we used plain warm water and a soft cloth. The key was to dry it right away and not wait.
We used to have "professional" cleaning solutions that were fucking those monitors up and you could see the coating peeling off.

If you don't want to experiment maybe get a broken unit or just a broken screen and test on that.

I actually use the Carl Zeiss lens cloth that came with my glasses. I think it works better than microfiber. No scratches, nothing. Great!

Just use a dry micro fiber towel and your breath (haaaa). Works perfect for me. Use the fuzzy side.

What I do is squirt some ammonia-free glass cleaner on a microfibre cloth, and work it in very lightly applying almost no pressure, until all the smudge marks are gone. Harmless stuff.
