    Tire sizing for S6 Avant 2003 4.2 L

I was hoping for feedback on the best tire size for my vehicle that will allow future suspension lowering. I am considering some 19X8.5 or 9" wheels and was thinking about 255/30 or 265/30; these will be closer to a plus 2 sizing but I know that MTM recommends 275/30 on 19x9.5 and Sportec recommends 235/35 on 19X8.5. Big difference. I am looking for a fairly square look or slightly stretched but no balloning. I think 255's minimum but was not sure if the 265's would pose any rubbing issues. ALSO!! My wife will be a frequent driver!!! Curbies!! Thanks for everyone's help.

    Re: Tire sizing for S6 Avant 2003 4.2 L

Damn man, after using that calculator thing I linked you to...those sizes are over the place. The 275's put you at 26.6" rolling diameter compared to the 25.1" with the 255's. Thats a lot of difference. The 235 size would be skinny as hell at just 9" wide.

If you haven't read some of the recent post about rims you should. Some guys bought 19x8.5's and are having issues with them clearing the HP2 calipers. Gotta pay attention to the offsets and such. You should be happy with that width though....fills up the widebody well

Stampy, thanks for that website. I think the safe bet is the 255/30 and play with the offset/spacers for either the 19x8.5 or 19x9. It would be nice to go with a little bigger rubber than stock ie the 265/30 but that would likely be on the 9 inch rim only. Thanks again.

Burnsy: Currently, I am running 235/3519(19x8.5F), and 265/30/19(19x9.5R) on my wifes' S6.......no problems at all. I am however, gonna step up the wheels to 275/30/19(19x10R), with the new set of wheels I have on order.......and I already have the coilovers in the basement as I type this. If I were you, I would at least do 19x9.5R with a et of 35 or better.

LA, really nice car!! I spoke with PES Tuning and if you can swing it I would def supercharge. You can get free installation if they use your car for R+D. As far as my car, I just purchased and it is being shipped from Lamborghini Ohio, site unseen, just photos. I have my Milltek sitting on my porch and obviously I am searching for wheels/tires. How do you like the Stoptech setup? Who did you buy from and which package? 265/30 too stiff? Burnsy

Man LAATER, you guys are lucky out there in Cali. These Chicago streets wage a war on anything with a profile like that! I ended up selling my 19's cause I couldn't deal with the constant dodging of missing earth in the street.

    That looks killer though.

    Re: Tire sizing for S6 Avant 2003 4.2 L

I have a 4.2 sedan. I am running 255/35/19. This tire is bigger than what is recommended, but I wanted a thicker side wall to protect my rims. My rims are BBS CH's that are 19 x 8.5 .My car is lowered on H&R springs and I have zero rubbing issues, but I just ordered 10mm spacers too push the tire out a little more to be flush with the wheel well, so that may change.
I dont know if this will help, but I had a lot of trouble finding the correct tire size for the wide body V8 cars. Everyone is going to tell you something different, but basically a million different sizes work on these cars, its more up to personal preference.

    Re: Tire sizing for S6 Avant 2003 4.2 L

Breezo, thanks this does help. Yes, there seems to be a lot of options for the wide body. I think that if I get 8.5 inch rims I will stick with a 255 tread width or if I get a 9 inch I will jump up to a 265 tread. I will play with the offsets and spacers to achieve that flush look. Thanks Todd
