Long time no post -- My A4 journey

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It's been a while since I've posted in this forum. After three years of ownership, my A4 has gone through quite the transformations. Basically went from stock, to having it modded with APR K04, APR Test pipe, APR Carbonio, AWE FMIC, APR Fuel Pump, AWE exhaust, Vogtland coilovers, RS4 rear sway bar, snub mount, Neuspeed power pulley kit, Forge DV, OZ Ultraleggeras, RS4 pedals, S4 door blades, In.Pro chrome side mirrors, smoked tails, and some other stuff that I'm sure I'm forgetting. As some of you recall, I parted it out and went back to stock about this time last year. Well, I did keep my APR flash, but everything else went back to stock status.

Honestly, the only mod I wish I would have kept were the Vogtland coilovers. That and a flash is all I really need to thoroughly enjoy the B7 A4. If I could have done it all over again, that's seriously all I would have needed to have been perfectly happy with this car. Don't get me wrong, I still love it in stock status (+ APR flash). This has been a great car! The only thing that has gone wrong with it was the stock diverter valve, but you really can't expect the stock one to hold up with extra boost. With that said, this has been a perfectly reliable daily driver.

What I love most about this car is that it's got the "zip" when you need it, the luxury factor, and it gets really good gas mileage.

What's ironic is that I appreciate the car more now in (almost) stock form than I did when it was heavily modded. Well, that probably has something to do with having my 400AWHP Stage III+ B5 S4 as the weekend warrior but hey, I still got the B7 A4 love!

There's really no point to this post other than the B7 A4 has been one of the best cars that I've ever owned. It doesn't matter if it's modded or stock, I've thoroughly enjoyed my B7 A4 in any trim.

P.S. To those of you that bought parts off me, I hope that you are still thoroughly enjoying them on your A4!

I thoroughly enjoyed that post. I'm on a budget and trying find maximum enjoyment per dollar with my B7. So many people with pretty nicely modded cars on here, sometimes I just get flooded with so many things I want to do that, since I don't have the funds to just chase all these things down right away, I almost put it off completely. Hearing that you went from having pretty much everything, back to stock and still loving it gives me hope that I'm not missing out as much as it seems/feels to me.

You gotta put some wheels and a drop for your daily driver though right?

Re: Long time no post -- My A4 journey

Been there, done that with some of my previous cars. I figured I was just getting old. Sometimes I get in the "need to buy something" mood, without fully validating for myself that the mod will actually improve things. Plus, what you find is that once you do all the things people recommend to you, you wind up with a car that's identical to half the people on the forum cause they've all done the same mods. In the end, do the mods you really think you'll appreciate, and just enjoy the car

I was saying this to someone about my B6 today. Honestly, I loved my brakes, suspension, and 1+ flash. After that the price vs. performance just isn't worth it

Totally agree, and I'll add Quattro to what you stated as to why I am truly enjoying the A4 as a daily driver (long distance travels) all year round.

    Very good advice.

I agree. Those first few key mods provide the most enjoyment for the money. They drastically change the car. After that you have to shell out a lot more money to get significant improvements.

Re: Long time no post -- My A4 journey

Let me throw in my 2cents. I came from a 300h.p.Volvo S60R AWD and thought the B7 was going to be a little of a let down but I was wrong. Yes stock for stock 100h.p. is a big difference but with my APR93 it feels like 90% of what my Volvo had and really woke up the car. Thats it, the brakes are on par with the S60R and suspension it think is "better"(S-line) handles just as good but feels more sorted out. The steering is way better no question and everyone knows Audi makes the best interiors. I like the quattro better than than the Haldex system that was on the Volvo because it is more front drive based 90% front 10% rear. A S-line B7 with a chip 6-speed quattro is a fun car. The car is just better all around.

    Pics or it didn't happen...

J/K... great to hear the enthusiasm. I always prefer to the less-is-more school of modding, I learned the hard way that you can't make a car something that its not, and throwing an entire parts catalog at a car won't change that. The idea should be to undo the what the OEM engineers did to water it down for the mass market without preverting the basic nature of the car. The A4 is a brilliant sport/luxury sedan.

As a new B7 owner it's great to hear chip/suspension is all the car needs, that's what a suspected. Maybe a few appearance tweaks too...
