I just wanted to introduce myself as a new member, even though I have been lurking around the forum for several months now. I purchased a 2004 A4 1.8T this last July with 40,300 miles on it and absolutely love it! I previously owned a Ford Bronco, so it was certainly a welcome upgrade. I loved the Bronco, but I was ready for my first really nice car. The car only had one owner, and it was most likely a lease and was bought through an auction by the dealer I bought it from.
The only issue that I have had thus far (knock on wood) was a coil pack failure a couple months ago, and not knowing what was wrong, I drove it a short distance to the "Stealership". I really wished that I had read about coil packs on this forum back then, because I ended up paying the Stealership to replace them ($220 for three, one had already been replaced). Ouch! Now I have the two good coil packs in the trunk and I know now how easy it is to change them. Oh well, you live an learn.
I recently changed the oil after reading here somewhere that if you drive on a failed coil pack, you should change your oil ASAP as raw fuel is being poured into the cylinder and eventually seeps into the oil pan. The Stealership never mentioned this to me after replacing my coil packs, even though they knew that I drove there! I thought that the computer would recognize that cylinder three was not firing and shut off the fuel to that cylinder. I know that it is nowhere in the manual to change the oil after a coil pack failure, but I expect the dealership to suggest that I do so. I found a great little indy place that works on Audis, so I will be going there for all scheduled maintainence from now on. I am so glad that this fourm is here, otherwise I would still be driving around with fuel in my oil!
Anyway, here's the good stuff...the pics! I don't have any plans for mods yet, but chipping may be the first thing I do here in the not-so-distant-future.
