Carbonio's latest carbon fiber intake for the 2.0 TSI engine is a truly race engineered ram air design that is available for the first time as an affordable street car intake system. Building from years of experience on and off the race track, Carbonio's and APR's engineering teams have spent countless hours developing a true cold air and ram air carbon fiber design that can be recreated affordably for the street performance enthusiast.

For many years professional motorsport organizations have suffered great expense to properly tune the air intake delivery system for transverse turbocharged engines for use in endurance and sprint races where every last horsepower and pound feet of torque can make the difference in position when crossing the finish line. Historically these designs have proven to be the most efficient and powerful although the most expensive to produce.

Aftermarket performance companies have attempted to capitalize on these designs however the cost restraints have typically resulted in compromise and deviation from the true engineering principles associated with motorsport accomplishment. Don't be fooled by catch phrases and tag lines alluding to a new intake technology or special design characteristic. You won't see any of these gimmicks installed on race cars at the Nurburgring.

Carbonio and APR have gone even further to maintain all oem specifications necessary to integrate cohesively with an otherwise stock engine to avoid raising eyebrows at the dealership. Flexibility was another characteristic of Carbonio's and APR's design whereas the new TSI intake is also suitable for Stage 1 and Stage 2 modified engines all the way up to and beyond APR's Stage 3 Turbocharger System.

APR first unveiled Carbonio's TSI Intake System at SEMA 2008 in Volkswagen Group of America's Concept CC and Tiguan.

Ram air induction is accomplished by maintaining the oem air inlet opening at the front of the leading hood edge which is the highest pressure area of airflow across the entire vehicle. Placement of the air filter as close to this high pressure zone as possible results in overcoming some of the airflow restriction created by even the highest flow air filters available.

    MAF Readings

Cold air induction is accomplished by completely sealing the intake system from the hot engine bay air and then taking it even further through the choice of Carbon Fiber material and an additional thermal barrier application to the inside of the intake system. Quite often intakes are advertised as cold air induction even though the material choice is a metal or plastic composite which simply does not insulate the incoming air from the hot engine bay air or does not completely seal the intake system in the engine bay allowing hot air to enter the intake stream negating any cold air induction gains.

    Dyno Performance

Benefits of the Carbonio CAI System include:

    » Increased Horsepower and Torque
    » Improved Throttle Response
    » Decreased Turbo 'Lag'
» Flattened Torque Curve (engine is less 'peaky')
    » Improved Fuel Economy
    » Enhanced Engine Volumetric Efficiency
» Enhanced Sound of Turbo Diverter Valve
» Installs in an Hour (does not require bumper or headlight removal)
» Maintains Clean Appearance by Retaining Factory Engine Cover
» Maintains All Factory Emissions Components
» Fits Both Manual and Automatic Transmissions
» Unique Thermal Barrier Composite Construction Ensures Low Inlet Temperatures
» Fully Compatible and Complimentary with APR Software and Exhaust systems

A stage 2 is in the works that will work for FSI customers. We'll still sell the old one as well because there are numerous customers who do not want to get rid of the factory engine cover on the old FSI.

What model VWs and years does that TSI engine cover come on? I want one... also where can you buy that Carbon Fiber Engine bay space cover seen that covers up around the radiator?

    +16 HP and +14 TQ

Sounds like some pretty insane numbers for an intake, im always skeptical reading your dynographs since they aren't printouts or anything and I know how you guys create these and everything from the B8 chip thread. Im just hoping that these are valid numbers.

Re: APR Presents - Carbonio 2.0 TSI Carbon Fiber Race Engineered Ram Air Intake

make sure you understand what they dyno'd and how the car has additional mods. With that said, the gains would go down if you were not running stage II and most likely would increase if you ran with additional mods or stage III. And yeah, as you have said, in their past posts, or some on vwvortex in regards to their k04 s3 package, they undercut the results and unofficially guarantee you would see gains like this, if not more. that is insane! Looking forward to getting one for the fsi.

Id say that's trying to cheat the customer on APR's part. Yeah they show that the vehicle is stage 2 on the graphs but not everyone's going to see that and they are going to expect these gains and end up not having any. Why not show the gains on a stage I / stock A3? Oh yeah....little to zero gains

I love the look but I disagree with trying to make people think they are going to get a lot of power out of it.

While our TSI development vehicle was on the dyno with a full RSC exhaust, we received the intake in the mail. It was simple to strap it on for a before and after dyno at that point. Unfortunately the car was quickly torn apart for stage 3 development before anyone up in marketing had a chance to request stage 1 and stock dynos.
