    Emissions Failed. Help!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My check engine light has been on for awhile now and it was inspection time. Long story short my car threw 2 codes. My only question is do I have to replace the left rear O2 sensor?

    17530 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating: B2 S2; Open circuit P1122 - 35-00

    17548 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; Bs S2; Internal resistance too high P1140 - 35-00

I tried resetting the ecu to no avail 3 times so I think my only option is replacing the sensor, but is there anythign else I need to do based off the VAG?

    Thanks

B2 S2, driver side rear(lower) sensor needs to be changed. What kind of emissions test do you do in your state, just OBD testing? As long as you pass your readiness test in a VAG COM, you shouldn't have a problem passing emissions. Did they even let you test with a CEL?

Well the CEL wasn't on immediately when they began the test. Like I said I attempted to reset 3 times and kept my fingers crossed, but it didn't work out. So the B2 S2 is the drivers side? He told me passenger side. I'll take your word for it.
    Thanks.

You can reset on a vag or an OBDII dianostic tool. You may be able to drive a few miles before it comes on again, borrow a OBDII from some one local. This worked for me.

Yeah the guy at the shop reset it on the VAG. He said if i hit 50 miles w/o it coming on bring it back. Otherwise replace the sensor. I guess I'll just order the sensor, not that big of a deal, could be worse.

TIP : Go to an emissions shop that only has a 2 wheel dyno they will do a rev test and you will pass.

No more messing around with inspections in New York, there was a way around everything before but not anymore with OBDII scan.

Not entirely true. Many states don't even put ODBII cars on dynos anymore, many states just perform a visual inspection and an ODBII readiness check. Sounds to me, in the OPs state, you have to pass ODBII.

It could be all states (Federally) are like this now in the U.S., but I'm not sure. In my state if you've got ODBII, there's no dyno for you.
